I don't. The game design is awful, awful. It manages to go wrong with both the old-school Doom-like things it brings along and the newfangled storyline stuff it helped bring along.

I'll take this opportunity to say Episode 2's final battle was the most disappointing part of a game I've ever played, and a waste of an opportunity to do something really awesome.

While I rarely play the game, and haven't in ages, I do enjoy it overall. It has a classic way of letting off some stress.

No, I played it all the way through and it's a linear FPS with a few puzzles thrown in. I have the Orange Box, bought it for Portal, the only Valve game I do like (correction: I LOVE).

I liked it; it did a great job of building an atmosphere of oppression and decay, and being able to slice zombies in half with sawblades certainly didn't hurt. I'd prefer Dog from HL2 as a sidekick, because, well, he can and will tear Strider's brains right the hell out, and if you don't think that's awesome, you are dead to me.

I wouldn't call myself a major fan of Half-Life 2, however, it was good enough for me to put in a second play through which says a lot for its quality.

Domestic Cats are awesome, who cares if they don't have a shred of loyalty or listen to commands.

Yeah.

But it's over-hyped to all hell.

It's far from the greatest FPS ever, and not nearly as revolutionary as people claim.

But the facial animation is still among the best in the business.

I think I may be the rarest of rare breeds in that I'm a long time PC gamer and a PC-exclusive FPS player... and I wasn't fond of Half-Life or Half-Life 2. Not that they were bad games, they just weren't very engaging to me. Never even finished Half-Life 2... it just struck me as one part gimmicky, one part "been there, done that".

It was enjoyable, but had little replay value for me. I reckon most of its innovation has now become standard procedure, so it's lost an amount of luster I can't calculate. Must be putting a lot of stress and expectations on the Episode 3 team. I'd love to be finally emotionally engaged by a game again; sadly this hasn't happened in years.

To be honest, I found the commentary to be more interesting than the game itself, but then again I'm a troper.

I loved the first and I only played that last year.....on the PS2. I went to play Half Life 2 the next day after finishing it and I hated it. The combat is extremely archaic and the story went nowhere. The terrible vehicle sections didn't help. I stopped at the dune buggy section and I will never go back.

I don't understand why people go like 'HL2 hasn't aged well' or 'HL2 has been surpassed by modern FPS titles'.

I mean, it's not like the FPS genre has evolved very much since then, has it?

Also, what the fuck is this?

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to answer the second question, stupid captcha distracting me...

Dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat...

Can't say I care for HL2 as I said in the other thread.

As for a sidekick, I'd prefer a dog, they'd be more useful in a fight and they're more loyal as a rule which is invaluable for a sidekick. :D

At the time Half-Life 2 was the most incredible thing, at the time nothing like this had ever been released! (Well apart from Half-Life 1 of course ^_^).

It really was something special and I was honoured to have played it...but looking back it kind of pales to the games we have today. Still very good in my book. +1

When I played HL2 I did notice a lot of things to like about it. The gameplay is very atmospheric, The characters are very likable, and the Gravity Gun is awesome. However, I also realize that the key selling point of the game is the emphasis on story, which is problematic for me because... well... I never had a fucking clue what was going on. I'd never played HL1 and had no prior knowledge.

It is sort of my fault that I didn't find out more about the story but that said I was a bit annoyed by just how unfriendly the game was towards an audience that weren't already acquainted with it.

(Also, I want a tiger as my sidekick. A tiger with superpowers so he can turn into fire and fly!)

It's a good game, but I never really loved it.

Similar to my thoughts of Gears of War, Resident Evil and Mass Effect. They all have their merits, but I never really liked any of them.

6 years since release and I'm still playing it over and over. No idea what it is. I guess it's because it's a nice simple one

Actually, no I don't really like it at all. I get incredibly bored no matter how many times I start it.

The same attack power eh? A cat then I spose, hopefully like felicia.
