when it's a choice between actual dog and actual cat, i'd say dog. id it's a choice between doglike and catlike, like wolf and tiger, then i'd pick cat. i'm more of a cat person, but i don't want mr fluffykins getting his fur all red ans sticky

also, HL2 rocks, and i don't even know why. i guess i love the story, the subtle touches, the protagonist, the gameplay and the half-life universe as a whole

...

ok, so i do know why i think it rocks

I dislike Half-life simply because it's a FPS, I do not like them at all, so therefore I didn't even bother with HL.

As for the pet thing I am going with the dog

I thought it was fun and can see how the series was ground-breaking for its time. Also: unless it's a big cat, I'd say dog. If you're going to have a sidekick, it needs to be able to actually help you, not clean itself while you're being brutally murdered.

It's alright, but it is MASSIVELY overrated, especially on these forums. You'd think Valve had brought about the second coming of Christ with this game or something. It's kinda ridiculous honestly.

I don't understand why people go like 'HL2 hasn't aged well' or 'HL2 has been surpassed by modern FPS titles'.

I mean, it's not like the FPS genre has evolved very much since then, has it?

Also, what the fuck is this?

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to answer the second question, stupid captcha distracting me...

Dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat dog or cat...

Capcha crap......

and I voted NO. It is simply put not a good game....and it makes me feel like I am gonna throw up. Seriously.
Simply for the sake of bumpage(that's all this thread is for really), no. Disliking a game does not make it bad. It makes it a game that isn't in your tastes. As far as technical design it's very well-executed and people like it, so that qualifies it as "good" by industry standards. People tell me coffee is good, but I hate the stuff. Coffee is loved world-wide and even has an art of making very good cups of the stuff. But I do not like it. That does not make coffee bad, simply something I don't care for. No game can please everyone, it just has to please enough of them. And I'd say it beat that quota and kept going. And going. And going.

Yeah I like it, its good, not as good as the original but its a pretty worthy sequel. Plus of course it was the flagship of the source engine which has proved itself over the years, and it deserves brownie points for not not going full retard (by which of course I mean not pandering to the mainstream console audience). Games which don't just follow the herd should be respected at least.

I loved it. For once a game that isint just *bang bang bang bang bang* it had puzzles, a decent storyline that relates to the first game, a overall great game.

Cat, I love cats but I wouldn't mind a dog. I just love cats.

Personally... no, I don't really care for Half-Life 2. I didn't get all that far in the game (the only aliens I recall killing were the ceiling barnicles), but the game just never clicked with me.

On the same token, however, the original Half-Life is one of my favorite games ever, and one of the few FPS games that I actually enjoy.

For a long time, I wasn't quite sure why I didn't like Half-Life 2, but now I think I understand why. It's the tone. Half-Life was a very lonely game. After some brief conversations with scientists at the very beginning of the game, you were basically alone for the entire thing. I really liked that.

But in Half-Life 2 (at least as far as I got), you never REALLY felt that alone. People were everywhere, everything took place outdoors, all the loneliness and claustrophobia was gone.

I guess I just found the second one lacking the atmosphere that enchanted me so much in the first.

I played through it, it entertained me for a bit.

I don't really hold it as my favorite game evar! Though. It is not deserving of the phrase it receives. Its full of cliches and to be honest, it was kind of boring.

Also, way to introduce Barney like we knew him. He totally made an appearance in the first game!

Both yes and no. I like the story and I think it's well-crafted. On the other hand, it's yet another first-person shooter. If there hadn't been just so damn many of those on the market over the last ten years or more, I might like it a lot more.

I love the story, I like the gameplay but I'm not crazy about it. There is really nothing revolutionary about the gameplay in HL2 and any of it's episodes. Story is what matters in that game. Still, I'm not crazy about it as some folks in gaming circles.

I'm not really a fan of Valve's trademark style of mixing great atmosphere with ridiculously limited route possibilities. I mean I haven't really played it. Just apathetically skimmed through using cheats. Sometimes the atmosphere overshadows the other side, but it wears off.

No, I do not. One of my biggest if not THE biggest gaming disappointment in my life. Story = nice. Too bad it was completely destroyed for me thanks to horrible way to distribute it. Letting you know just a tiny shred of info before another 'OMIGOD GORDON, ROCK FALLS, we must reunite somewhere else' moment and repeating it constantly is the worst idea in storytelling ever.

But that would be fine, if at least the gameplay would be top notch... But it isn't. Apart from impressive physics engine, I cannot say anything good about it. Scripted enemies take away about 50% of the fun, uninspiring weaponry and gunplay another 20%. Horrible vehicle sections ate yet another 20%. That last 10% of fun remained, thanks to said physics and gravity gun which was fun for the first few minutes.

Combine all of it, and you have a game stopper for me. In fact, I was so enraged, I wanted to throw it out of the window after another crappy boat level after Ravenholm. Then I remembered that I bought the Orange Box, with Portal and TF2 - two games I actually really like, so the disc got lucky. But instead of playing it, I just watched the Youtube walkthrough and skipped to the plot parts. Yeah, the story is nice gotta admit...
