Oblivions was terrible. In having caps for abilities, and tying levels to those abilities, it mean't that focusing on those abilities actually made your character weaker.

For example, if picked an orc using heavy armor, you would start with a bonus of 50, and therefore would only be able to gain 5 levels from using that armor. If you picked one of those little elf dudes, you would only start at 20, giving you 3 extra levels. This actually rewarded you for making Orc mages or wild elf warriors, completely ruining the RPG aspect of leveling/character/race play.

However, the fact that Oblivion's own enemies level up WITH you is a severe and major annoyance, which makes me go for fallout 3
That happens in Fallout as well, just more subtly. They do it because they can't make any enemies TOO tough since you can easily reach most of the places in the game world at level 1.

I preferred F3. While Oblivion's system was something new (to me) and seemed a little more realistic, I never had the patience to cast a restoration skill 2000 times just to be able to use the next level of the spell.

I like oblivion's "use your skill to level it up" but I really like fallout's gaining experience for exploring and completing quests

Fallout 3. At least it's not broken.

I could do a long post about all the facets of Oblivion's character development system, but I'll just say that any system where increasing your main skills is a BAD thing is fundamentally broken to begin with.

FO3 is simplistic, but at least you know what you're getting...

I prefer Fallout 3. While it is rather strange that in both games the NPCs might watch you kill a raider/bandit the people who watched you would come up and ask if you are alright or if you need help with that there dead guy.

I liked Oblivions leveling more, but Fallout 3's story and nice little things (Like the Radio's and home-made weapons) make it a better game. However, Fallout 3's level cap is kind of low.

Overall, I like Fallout 3 more.

Take Oblivion's correlation between skills and stats, throw in Kobu's Character Advancement System to fix the "efficient leveling" problem, and you've got one of the better level-up systems ever to appear in an RPG.

i would prefer a mix of perk system with attribute rise, i also like being able to change my speed. 120 speed rocked. (100 base and then vampire)

Neither. Fallout 3 has a level cap of 20. The fallout 1/2 level system was the superior one.

I feel bad for bethshit, they can't seem to do anything right.
What the hell are you talking about? Bethesda is trying to change the way we view RPGs. Hell, Arena was twenty steps up from all of those shit-ass JRPGs. Bethesda is going to change the cap level to 30 when the DLC Broken Steel comes out. Why would you comment if you didn't even have a valid opinion... Oh, Oblivion... Grinding skills can be fun! With Fallout it takes too long to level up when you get to higher levels.

I like Fallout 3 better, in oblivion when I had to walk to places I just summoned stuff and blew em up for my destruction skill.

bit of both tbh. I love Fallout's system of not having to rest to lvl and by lvling up by just doing things. But once you get to lvl 20 thats it, which is quite easy tbh. And i love how on Oblivion you can max all skills, not so easy.
A mix of both would be heaven.
but overall FO3

I dislike the Oblivion system due to its deterence on trying different things. If you want to experiment with a non-class ability you're pretty much avoiding leveling up, which is a bit annoying. It makes character specialization more of a core mechanic and not in the good way.

Fallout all the way. Nothing against Oblivion, but any game where I need to use set specific skills to level up gets tiresome, especially when those skills are ones used few and far between. Fallout simplified things by having experience gained from doing anything. Complete a quest? Experience. Disarm a bomb? Experience. Fight your way out of a Super mutant ambush backed up by a behemoth. EXPERIENCE! An easy way to gauge the difference; two weeks of playing Oblivion and I got to level 2, Fallout 3 for one week and Im already to level 14. I think Ill take the faster one.

I still pick Oblivion, namely because I like the system more than Fallout 3. They are both different, which makes them both good because Bethseda didn't just make Oblivion with guns, they tried something different and it worked great.

Go and play Dark Corners of the Earth.

Also, F3 for me. Oblivion is, basically, jump always, cast spells next to bed, grind, grind, grind, etc.
