Poll: Make-up for men. Where do you stand?

I think men should be ALLOWED to wear whatever make up -or clothing!- they like.
But all men, all the time? That's just the big factories dreaming of doubling their income.

I did get the barber to paint my hair bright red a week ago.

I hate wearing makeup personally. I only really wear it because it's expected of me.

This is what I'm worried about. What if becomes expected of men too?

Hopefully it ends up going the other way, with neither gender expected to wear makeup, but I doubt the cosmetics industry will just let that happen.

Your poll question is kinda unclear. Do I think men should be expected to wear makeup? no, its annoying that women are already. Do I think men should be able to wear makeup? yes, if a guy wants to wear makeup power to him. I might still laugh at him if he pulls it off badly (same goes for women so whatever)

I think it should be as obligatory for men as it is for women. The best thing would have it not be expected for both genders. I like the do as you want camp, but society doesn't let you do what you want without funny looks.

all kidding aside though, I thought make was supposed to fade with equality because women are no longer measured by their looks (ideally), but now it seems it means that men ALSO will be judged by their looks.

Depends on who's doing the measuring. A little misunderstood fact, women wear make more to impress other women than they do to attract men. I'm an expert at these things because my girlfriend works at the giant makeup store Sephora! Thankfully she's in skin care, so isn't into that clown makeup look.

Expected? For fantasy's sake we could say 'expected', but I'm guessing we're saying 'expected' because a lot of women wear make-up. Personally I'd much rather women didn't wear make-up. Be yourself. And spare everyone the mixed feelings when people see you without the facade.


Anyway, on to the hypothetical scenario of men with make-up. Green Day, Robert Pattison, it seems to work for some. I used to wear hair product, just don't care any more. That's the closest I can get to relating. I wouldn't wear make-up if it were required, for the same reason as not wearing hair product now, the payoff isn't there.

I'd be more happy for the expectations of women to wear it to diminish to be honest.

But men who want to wear it? Hell yeah, I think if you wanna do something that's harmless enough you go do that shit. When it looks good, it looks good. But don't thrust expectations onto those who don't.

This is how the female make up industry got so monstrous. Girls are horrible bitches to each other when they don't fit into our ideals of perfection, and make life a living hell for the girls who don't conform to that idea. I want that stamped out.

Men in the other vein, have it tough if they want to break the mold too. They might be more likely to be cornered and beaten rather than psychologically tortured over a long period of time but it's still stupid.

I don't think the expectation for make-up is good for anyone, regardless of gender. So yes, it'd be bad if men were expected to wear make-up, but I think it's bad for women to be expected to as well. Everyone should just be free to wear it if they wish. And while it'd certainly be strange to see a guy wearing it, it's no stranger than other things I've seen in my life and after a while it'd just stop being novel.

Overall can't say I'd be all that thrilled about the prospect of being expected to wear make up. However, I don't think I'd start even if I was expected to. Down with this sort of thing and all that.

I think it would be all right, so long as while growing up we were 'trained' equally as well on how to actually use the stuff.

Until I was about 20 I personally thought moisturizer was just something for your hands,
and I've a hard enough time finding the 'correct' shampoo simply because it's something we're not usually taught to identify.

I'd quite like to know the hows and whys of makeup, and while youtube's a great source of info, trial and error is both expensive and embarrassing.

i don't care if guys want to wear it or not. i don't care if women want to or not. imo, id prefer people who aren't in show business to not wear it during normal social interactions. it's a bit stupid in my opinion. But i really don't think ANYBODY is expected to. I think it's just f***ing media pressure getting to women, i really don't know any guys that give much s*** about make-up on their girl friends or whatever.
