Well, the other posts have all been paragons of manliness, so to keep things fresh, let's go with the man who's moustache is so manly and awesome, it's called a beard!
Stabbed in the stomach? Tickles. Shot with lasers? Not a problem. Has magma chucked in his face? Not a big deal. Magma bomb going off INSIDE his chest? Meh. Guy just didn't stop coming all because his adopted son was in trouble (of course, the idiot did have to lose his cool and waste all that effort).
If we are talking about GAR-ish characters, then Kenshiro. Definetly Kenshiro. The granddady of everything and everyone badass.
Although, my personal vote would go for first three JoJo's from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Fun thing, someone on youtube said that they are basically Kenshiro divided into three people:
Brawn, respect for fellow man and protective nature went to JoJo numero Uno, Jonathan Joestar:
Wits went to his grandson, Joseph Joestar (who is slowly but surely taking over this thread):
His young self:
His old self:
Stoicism went to third JoJo, Jotaro Kujo:
Special mention goes to Shirohige from One Piece. He is wise, calm, powerful and cares about his crew as father would.
But if we are talking about a bit more realistic manly men, hmm, I don't know. Oh, wait! I think I'll pick Spike from Cowboy Bebop.
Guts. Most definitely Guts. No secret techniques, no super-abilities, just skill, endurance and willpower ( +surprising depth of character) to fight against gods.
In fact you know what I want to change my mind, because truly one of the manliest men in Anime is Jubei:
He's in control, he isn't ruled by sex or lust, he's stoic but not unemotional, he doesn't just rely on his strength, but also his wits and he only ever takes what he needs to get by.
And did I mention this guy is (admittedly loosely) based on an actual historical figure who is considered something of a folk hero: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yagy%C5%AB_J%C5%ABbei_Mitsuyoshi
Haha, I hate to break it to some of you but as much as I like Berserk/Guts and think he is a good choice being able to wield a sword that ridiculously massive is a super power.
Anyways if I put some time thinking about it I could probably come up with something really obscure, but that's too hard so I'll just go with Armstrong.
I'd have to say either Spike Spiegel, Batou or Motoko Kusanagi. Yes, Motoko is a woman, but she's manlier and more awesome than most of the anime men I've seen.
