I am thinking soldier. I have a level 60 Shepard from ME1 who is a soldier so I will probably continue on with the class I am familiar with.

I know we've had several threads that were generally about this same topic, but now that the final class video for ME2 is out on IGN, I figured I'd ask now that we can all make more informed decisions.

Anyway, we have the same 6 classes as in the first game (Adept [http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14235013/mass-effect-2/videos/masseffect2_trl_adept_112309.html], Engineer [http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14235013/mass-effect-2/videos/masseffect2_trl_engineer_120309.html], Sentinel [http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14235013/mass-effect-2/videos/masseffect2_trl_sentinel_121109.html], Infiltrator [http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14235013/mass-effect-2/videos/masseffect2_trl_infiltrator_122109.html], Vanguard [http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14235013/mass-effect-2/videos/masseffect2_trl_vanguard_10510.html], and Soldier [http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14235013/mass-effect-2/videos/masseffect2_trl_soldier_11210.html]), but it looks like more is being done in the sequel to make them distinct. For example, they've added more than weapon types than just the 4 we're used to (SMG, Heavy Pistol, etc), and there's more variety in which classes can use which guns. Also, and probably more importantly, each class has at least one completely unique ability, so the Vanguard (for example) is actually fairly unique, rather than just being half a soldier glued to half an adept.

And so we come to the heart of the issue. Keeping in mind that, even if you carry over your save, you can still switch classes, which one appeals to you the most?

For me, I'm either planning on going Infiltrator or Adept. On the one hand, that invisibility power looks cool, and the fact that it looks like the Infiltrator is designed for long range appeals to me. On the other, they've really made the biotics look better and more useful here than they were in the first game.

What do you all think? Please, explain your decisions.

EDIT: Sonuvabitch, the "Great big thread o' Mass Effect 2 Combat" went up while I was typing. It's about a different topic, but still...
To answer you the Soldier, coz he is built solid and a good weapon user. You should also check out the user review section for this http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.170666

I'll probably be a soldier, since Liara and Tali are my main team. It will depend on who is the full-on biotic in ME2.

Seems there's quite a few. I know that being a "powerful biotic" is both SuZe and Samara's thing, and I know that Thane has at least some biotics.

Soldier or Infiltrator probably, though I never used biotics much in the first game so I may well be tempted to try something in that vein this time around.

Yeah, watch the Adept video in the OP, they really made biotics look appealing this time around.

I've always felt that the Soldier class was, if not the canon class, then at least the default.

I felt that way too, especially since Kurt Vonne Shepard (my character) is a War Hero and Colonist.

Soldier because that's what I was in Mass Effect. (I know you can change your class and such at the beginning of ME2, but I want to have Miss Roslyn Shepard to be the same for all three games.)

Soldier, with specialization 'Shock Trooper', because I tend to forget I have more weapons than just my Assault Rifle (and more abilities than that squad resurrecting one).

Though I have been thinking about perhaps going one of the hybrid classes. Soldier/Tech or Soldier/Biotic, dunno which.

But seeing as you'll get plenty of biotic squad members and Tali returns, I guess I'll just go Soldier and leave the throwing, warping, hacking and decrypting to my squad.

Tough choice. Soldier is out, since it looks to be the most bland class. Infiltrator is out too, since I dislike Stealth (I loved the Infiltrator in the first game though). I'm not too keen on Sentinel's skill selection, so he's probably out too.

In the end, it'll likely be Adept or Vanguard, but the revamped Engineer looks like it might be fun...

Will they also be carrying over backstory from the first game? Like for example, if you were a survivor on Akuze, will that be brought back up?
Not just the backstory from the first game, but also the story. A lot of the stuff that you did in the first game will affect the new game in some way (who you killed and who you let live, how you did some quests, etc.).

Is any of the mass effect DLC stuff going to effect Mass Effect 2? Not that there was much of it or much there..

Engineer, I like the tactics involved. Obliterating defenses and stunning/distracting a few opponents with abilities and drone while utilizing my teammates abilities when their protection is down. Don't like to use biotics myself, having a team member to is useful though.

Edit: And even if you don't have a biotic on your team one of the two full upgrades of the drone attacks and weakens all types of protection.
