She still looks absolutely terrible to me. Serious duck-face there... not to mention a kinda derpy look.
There are only four companions I ever really cared about:
1. Tali (Love interest, hot nerd with a shotgun, etc.)
2. Wrex (No explanation required)
3. Legion (He's a robot! What more do I need to say?)
4. Garrus (General BAMF and a good sniper)
OT: I hated Ashley. She was a xenophobic *****. The only reason I picked her over Kaidan was because Kaidan was a Carth clone. Then how does she repay me for letting her live when I return to her after being revived? She bitches at me! Now she looks like a prostitute, which does not boost my opinion of her. I just wish I had the option to kill both of them on Virmire.
Now pardon me while I wait for them to announce miss Vas Normandy's role in the game.

Her grandfather is the only human to surrender to aliens. As a result, she got shafted by the Alliance many times. Her holding a grudge against aliens is perfectly understandable, reasonable, and, well, human.Wheatley said:
She's hostile to Liara because if your a male, she see's someone who could try and take you away from her. In other words, jealousy, which is another human trait. If your female, well its because she just got on the ship and appears to be taking control of everything. Knowing her history, its obvious she would react this way.
Her views also change throughout the game. After talking with you plenty of times, she re-thinks her stance on aliens, and changes. She's more accepting of them after you talked with her. She changes because of the situations that she's been in.
And she bitches you out in ME2 because your working with a terrorist organization known for ruthlessly killing aliens(and preforming horrid tests on humans). How would you feel if someone close to you, who talked you into accepting another culture, and then came back 2 years later doing secret missions for some racist terrorist organization? An organization you actually fought against in the first game(the Cerberus quest chain in ME1 is the largest quest chain outside of the main quest). You'd be pissed off to, and demand an explanation. Of course you can't defend yourself because Bioware doesn't let you. But thats not an issue with her, thats an issue with the dialog system not letting you tell the truth.
Essentially, she's a fully developed character complete with a personality, beliefs, morals, thoughts, likes, dislikes, emotions, and all that good stuff that makes us human.
And for some reason everyone hates that, and prefers Tali for some reason. A girl who's infatuation with you is more annoying than cute.
Let me compare this side by side.
There are like no similar features between there faces, I wouldn't even believe they were sisters, never mind the same person. Eye brows, eyes, nose, lips, cheek bones, they've all been changed and I wouldn't recognize her with out them telling me who she is. Also I want be bulky armor that shows off none of her figure, that goes double Shepard. I'm not a fan of visual retcons to this degree.

I killed her in my paragon character's game while romancing her because I wanted to see if it was acknowledged that he left his lover to die on Virmire in the second game(I was disappointed that it was never brought up, even when romancing Tali).
I wanted to role-play my soldier Shepard as a tragic figure who grew up on Earth with no family running with gangs, sitting by on Akuze and watching his friends die and losing someone he loved on one of the toughest missions of his life.
And I rambled a bit there.

Whenever Ashley mentions the issue, Shepard usually gets a response along the lines of "Your a Racist! You big Racist you!"
When Tali is talking about reclaiming her home world or the Geth, you usually cant call her out on it. I guess most of the player base never noticed because of that.
I think certain members of the team let their own political opinion spilled over into the game. It's pretty subtle, probably unintentional.
If it was done on purpose, then it was very sneaky. Even if the allegory wasn't.
