Only learned what they were on a thread on here (you know what one) and I think it's alright if it's not overdone.

Most are harmless jokes, from KILL IT WITH FIRE to the ORLY? owl. I don't see how they're problematic or anything. Also, I can bet you this thread is going to get locked. But I made this to say what I feel needs to be said and to get my point across in a fairly intellectual and non-inflammatory manner.

They can be funny at times, but they wear out quickly and then just start to become annoying. Used at the right times (like a de-motivational poster, before they get old) they can be great.
What about lolcats?
They've gotten old.
Some of them are still funny. Well, new ones.
Just voicing my opinion. Some of them might be funny, but I've lost interest, and the majority I see now are re-hashes or bad.
Fair enough. Which memes do you like?
I see wat u did thar. Older lolcats. Over 9000 when used right. Those spring to mind, but used wrong they can just be stupid. Those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Oh, and I don't know if it counts as a meme, but engrish. All engrish.

I usually enjoy them. Some are just an alternative way of expressing a feeling. Try and explain the feeling you get when you reply "O'RLY?" to someone without saying "O'RLY?". Something like "Damn, you got me there" or "I don't believe it" gets closest but nothing really does the job.

I love Pokemon, and this meme is actually convincing me to put a Seaking on my team.

Exactly. Memes are useful.

I enjoy them in and of themselves. It's only when a thread gets drowned in them. It's not funny if you see it coming a mile off.

That's a given for sure; too much of anything gets old fast.

IT'S OVER 9000!!!! Did you have that in mind while posting or was it just Freudian?

Some memes are genuinely funny, but Rick Rolls need to be killed with fire.

While the relative tolerance of memes is a discussion for a later time, the majority of probations/warnings occur when people use them in place of actual discussion and conversation, they fall under the rules concerning low content posting. A reply that consists of a lolcat adds to the discussion in the same way that a brick to the forehead facilitates analytical thinking.

Like so many others, I get addicted to memes for a short while. Also like many others, memes never really leave me. I still say things like "Leeroy!" or "What you say?" or "Boom! Headshot!" I love memes and I'm never angry when a meme gets posted on these forums.

I'll agree that you shouldn't have been put on probation for your post in that thread, but the mods here can be a bit overzealous. At least it was only probation.

Sometimes a meme can say something better than just words.

I enjoy memes. They are what give the internet its own "personality." It's like cliques at school; the internet has created a group of people who act and sound different then everyone else. And I'm happy to be a part of that community.

Remember, however, that if said something is low on content and absent of relevance then how you say it is immaterial.

Where's the "What are memes option"?

I am actually serious. Can anyone explain what memes are in this context?
