please help me with this fellow gamers, my mate here at work uses regular controls on COD and GOW etcetera, where as i invert my axis so that pulling back on the analogue scrolls the camera upwards, much like an aircraft (THE CORRECT WAY!) Its turning into an argument so i'd just like a show of hands to prove me right, thx people
(only joking about THE CORRECT WAY remark, geez)

That's a thing of preference my friend. Don't just assume that it's right just because that's how you do it.

For me, it just feels unnatural. This might just be a guesstimate, but I think the majority would be inclined to disagree with you- at least, nearly every gamer I know prefers to leave the axis as it is.

Also, why does the thread title sound like a Homer Simpson quote?

I invert Y for everything. I have three friends who play games and they all invert as well. HOWEVER, I think inverting the Y axis is actually in the minority. I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere.

Also you might want to go out of your way to clarify that this is a question for console gamers... I don't think anyone in their right minds inverts their mouse for anything beyond flight-sims.

In FPS's I invert the Y; in 3rd person games, I prefer to invert both axes for the camera only, if possible. These tend to be points of contentment between me and my friends when playing pass-the-controller in games, as all my friends play their games with the camera in the natural axes positions. Needless to say, there's a lot of scrolling through menus prior to the matches we play together if we've gotten together in a group.

Like a bunch of folks have already said, it's personal preference, there is no correct way to do it.

I personally prefer the standard non-inverted axis in most games except flying games. I think that's the same with most people I know as well. But again, personal preference.

Never ever. I don't even know but one friend who does that.

But yeah, it's merely about personal preferences.

It really depends on the game, sometimes I invert sometimes I don't. Honestly can't put any real pattern on it it just depends on the feel of the game.

Inverted makes some kind of sense if you use a gamepad, as it means that you're moving the analogue stick as you would move your neck.

Using a mouse, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Personally, I don't see how people can play first person games with gamepads, but that's just me.

In FPS I dont invert. To me it feels odd.

Though in flight sims etc I do, there it feels wrong not to.

It's not like an aircraft, at all. If it were like an aircraft, moving the stick to the left would cause you to barrel roll. It's not like a pool cue through the back of you characters head (or whatever) either, because left and right aren't inverted. So it's the wrong way really.

Yeah, I don't invert it, but I avoid console shooters in general these days anyway.

I could get used to it if both axis were inverted, but with just one switch it messes with my head when I want to aim say, up and right.

Pretty much always do it, don't know what started it, perhaps using a joystick in the early days. I can't play a shooter without it inverted, I can at the most control an MMO, if it's just the camera.
It feels very natural to me, but I'm not aware of many that do it, particularly not among people younger than me. My older brother inverts too.

I have 'up' meaning 'look up' and vice versa. Just never got used to pulling downwards and looking up, it's like trying to write while looking in a mirror for me.

I dont care what anyone does, but at least with shooters it makes more sense to me to not have it inverted(why would I point down with my hands to make my gun go up?), for aircraft sims it should be inverted though, and for quite a few other things it should be as well, but for fps's it just doesnt make logical sense to invert it... at least to me.
