Personally, I think pork works the opposite way to alcohol. I didn't go through the whole thread (so I obviously missed this whole alcohol debate), but I'd still mention a fun fact while we're at it: After 9/11, muslim-owned shops in New York and elsewhere in the U.S. were ravaged, even more so did the number of attacks on muslims or merely people of seemingly oriental origin rise to a nauseating height in many western countries - and nobody gives a toss. Well, that's what immediately came to mind when I had read the thread title.

I agree, however, with those who say it is disgusting behaviour. But that's what may happen within immigrant communities when painfully neglected. Do not let that deceive you, those mentioned in the media are simply the worst cases.

From what we can see, the attack happened with no prior aggravation, and the boyfriend used very little force when it came to trying to protect his girlfriend.

This is really an open-and-shut case, in which religion or race should not even come into play. The judge had his head up his ass big-time.

I spent my time at univsersity studying law and the application of law, not data collection, and wouldn't even hazard a guess because I would be wrong.

None of us know the facts of this case, and until I get a transcript in front of me, telling me exactly what both sides claim to have happened, along with evidence, I can't even make an informed guess.

Regardless of race or creed the law of the land you live in or visit is the law of the land, I don't care who they are or what mitigating circumstances they say was the reason for it, they beat a person nearly to death. Now had this been a gang of white girls who did'nt drink I don't think the judge woule have made the same choice, he'd have thrown the book at them. Not to sound racist or bigoted, but if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. THe judge should have given them the five years that they deserve. As a citizen of the UK I am disgusted that this judgement call was made. The law applies to everyone.

If this situation was reversed, and a gang of non-muslim British girls attacked a Muslim girl, can you imagine the situation being anything like this afterwards? Of course not, they would have been strictly punished. I am a liberal and believe in a liberal immigration policy and I despise the BNP and their ilk, but I often read of Muslims in this country being able to get away with almost anything using their religion as a shield. Islam is not a race, it is a set of beliefs. And the fact that we tip-toe around it, so worried about "offending" them means we end up with an affront to the Rule of Law, where Muslims are given special treatment rather than equal treatment under the Law.
