I found myself trying world of warcraft a while back for a month loved it at first but one thing ruined the game for me. They say you're the chosen one, but there are millions of other chosen ones out there. That itself isn't the problem, say your finishing a quest where you get the sword you've always wanted at the end of the quest. Proud to have got it then five minutes later you walk past a guy with the same sword.

yes, i agree. there is no individuality in WoW. no matter how hard you work, no matter how much you commit to the game, theres always some1 better with better stuff.

yes, it is frustrating.

1) That is a problem with MMOs in general, and one of the many, many reasons I don't play them.
2) Please sort out your grammar, I had difficulty working out what you were trying to say...

Thats one of the main reasons why I won't be getting The Old Republic. I find it hard to believe that an MMO can have proper plot.

Well, that's another reason why I like Lord of the Rings Online. You're not the one bringing the ring there or whatever, you're one of the "influx of adventurers" that aids the fellowship and the free people so that the mission goes as planned.

My problem is lack of new content by the time you get high level. I got to level 47 in WoW, but it came to a sudden halt because I discovered that the quests were boring, and I was stuck between piss easy quests that give no experience, and uber hard impossible quests.

While that sounds like a possible fix for his problem, that actually sounds like a worse problem to me because then I just feel extraneous. Whether or not I do whatever it is I need to do has no real impact on the world being saved. I'm not the hero, I get to watch the hero go by.

Yes, the OP's problem is one of a potential problems for me and MMOs, but it is not one that I usually encounter, because I have other issues with MMOs. Besides, the only MMO I've given real consideration to in the past couple of years is City of Heroes, where I'm not trying to be the best, just impede the massive amounts of crime. We can't all be Superman.

But some of us can.

His grammar isn't that bad. Maybe you should sort out your understanding :p. (Unless he's already changed his original post).

Never played MMOs, hopefully never will.

I don't really give a flying f**k about stuff like that. I play for gameplay and 'cosmetic' reasons. I couldn't care less about the lore. Hence, individuality issues don't concern me more than a ".. kk... whatever...".

Well, that's because it tries to be accurate to the source material, unlike World of Warcraft, where the real lore heroes are overshadowed by Silentknives and Steamyvagina who killed Arthas. Lord of the Rings already has a well established and loved lorebase and fanbase, and the game accomodates both. You're a hero in your own way without ruining the real story on the way.

You seriously need to get a reality check. This is life. Everything you do will be done better by someone else, even in a virtual world. Get over it.

I swear Yahtzee said this at some stage. That's one of the reasons I don't play them, secondly because they completely butcher the franchise they're supposed to be representing.

EDIT: Apparently so.

I don't like them myself, but mostly because I can't really get into any fantasy settings besides Biowares ones like NWN and DA:O.

And I am genuinely looking forward to The Old Republic. It may be the only one I'll actually play.

I agree, seperating from the crowsd is kinda important for me when I play games :p
I tried Champions Online. The character creation in that game pretty much gives you the tools to look just how you want and not many others look like you!
The game itself became boring rather quickly though.

That actually isn't what WoW is like. your just a grunt and even at the highest level of raiding and story finishing you dont really rank any higher then you were before. I really cant think of a single time that they really said that in WoW.

The item thing is more of a problem, but I mean there are like a billion items in the game. You cant have them all say "this is a generic sword with +1 strength" that would be really lame. At leas the back story adds a little flavor beyond that even if it is just bull and fluff.

I think what I hate more then people quoting Yahtzee is people who link every opinion that a person had that was close to Yahtzee's opinion as not theres. We've been playing the same games he has, we all can form our own opinions without his help. Should they look like his opinion then perhaps thats just the person shares the same problem with the game. We have all seen the Yahtzee clone reviews, but if a person opinion is close to Yahtzee's then there is no reason to call him out on it.

this is off course not saying he isnt (because I thought the same thing), but I really dont think that comment was really necessary. (lol neither was my rant at yours)

That can be a problem, but I don't think there's any soultion unfortunately, except making your character some generic guy. I guess that wouldn't be so bad.

Yes, and clearly, the reason we play video games is not to...- I don't know... experience something different.
