It can come across as lazy storytelling. Ever notice how the "Epic Weapon" of the MMO that everyone eventually gets is quickly replaced by something better, sometimes even by a weapon you already own?

2) Please sort out your grammar, I had difficulty working out what you were trying to say...
His grammar isn't that bad. Maybe you should sort out your understanding :p. (Unless he's already changed his original post).

Never played MMOs, hopefully never will.
Yeah, he has changed it.

Although he still hasn't got "you're" and "your" right...

yes, i agree. there is no individuality in WoW. no matter how hard you work, no matter how much you commit to the game, theres always some1 better with better stuff.

yes, it is frustrating.
You seriously need to get a reality check. This is life. Everything you do will be done better by someone else, even in a virtual world. Get over it.
sounds like ur more broken up about it than i am.

is there something you wish to share with your psychologist?

The fact that I said "get over it" implies that I also am 'over it'. I don't care about the fact that virtual accomplishments are topped by others, I play because I have fun playing.

For me, the problem is that MMO's are 20 percent Discovery and Enjoyment, and 80 percent grinding and difficulty.

Ah yes, being called a chosen one in an MMO is immersion-breaking. And the community, too.

That's why I don't play them.

this is off course not saying he isnt (because I thought the same thing), but I really dont think that comment was really necessary. (lol neither was my rant at yours)
Well, that wasn't what my entire post was saying, I didn't just pop in to say 'lol yahtzee clone' and leave, I did say other things.

Seriously though:

They say your the chosen one, but there are millions of other chosen ones out there.
That's taken directly from the Age Of Conan review (if memory serves), and actually doesn't have much relevance to WoW at all, as you said so yourself. I don't play WoW myself, but I know that what he's saying isn't really correct at all.

So the logical first step for me was to assume he doesn't really know what he's talking about and given the similarity to Yahtzee's opinion, he must be simply parroting him.
Or at least that's how it looks to me.
Just to clear something up I used the "chosen one" quote on purpose so people think of the yahtzee review and know what I'm trying to get at.

Yes, it kind of annoys me, but I still enjoy MMOs. I long for the day when some MMO just makes you feel like a footman, not a hero...

...and then it puts you in a huge battle with 10,000 players. /nod

You should ignore all that chosen one shit they feed you in MMO's as soon as you start playing. The best you could hope for is that you aren't wearing the exact same equipment as everyone else in your class.

World of Warcraft doesn't really suffer from the 'you are the chosen one' thing that Age of Conan had. In fact I cant really remember having a quest telling me "You have to sort it out because your the only one who can", I remember tonnes of "Go do some grunt work" or "go get your friends and do some grunt work" though.

Though I will agree that its a bit odd doing a quest and being given this awesome weapon only to find the guy next to you has the same weapon but its a minor issue to me.

Your OP sounds more like Yahtzees opinion to me, but whatever.

I don't like them myself, but mostly because I can't really get into any fantasy settings besides Biowares ones like NWN and DA:O.

And I am genuinely looking forward to The Old Republic. It may be the only one I'll actually play.
Too bad Kotor games didn't continued... i really dislike MMO's...

I never put in enough time into WoW to have that problem, but I can understands why you would be bothered by it.

To be honest, I don't mind. Just like I usually look past all the "this is your quest to save the world!" even though nothing ever changes in the game.

Yes, and clearly, the reason we play video games is not to...- I don't know... experience something different.
That is completely irrelevant. Games offer an alternate reality which you can enjoy in your own way. There is no reason to aim for being "the chosen one" or "the best at ..", you should enjoy the game and what it has to offer.

Myself, because I am obviously lost in a wave of childhood issues that include not caring about virtual accomplishments that have to make up for what I lack in real-life. Also, I cry myself to sleep because my lvl 80 full epic wow char is not the only one with the best staff in the game.
/sarcasm off

I don't even play wow. :/

Thats the first thing I thought of, the OP sounds word for word what Yahtzee said when he reviewed Age Of Conan...

I don't think you are ever called the chosen one in WoW or anything like it, if anything half the quest givers you find talk about how you are part of an on-going war.

In any event, Kights Of The Old Republic sounds like it will be truely awesome, and even if it does turn into a several hundred hour kotor 3 I'd be fine with it.

I have to agree i like to be different from other people usually because everyone always seems to have the same stuff or better stuff and if there is something that drops like 2 or 3 people need then there is usually an argument involved afterward on who gets the item.

Thats why i always try to go for the option of what hardly anyone else plays to avoid all that.
