Might I ask what kind of 'other people's names' you use? I mean, celebrities, or people you know personally and like/hate?
Both actually.

But lately I've been naming my characters Gorlok. (points for anyone who know the reference)

Some of my names are more serious, like Tiana Myst, while others are more humorous, like Doombert and Newtroll. Most my names are fairly simple more than anything else though, like Nobody, Witchdoctor or Madness. Some names have a special meaning for me like Jamynn (an ex) or Gabriel (my sons.) Many characters I've made in the past nine months have been named after my fiance.

I do really like the name Shih-tzu though for shape-shifting characters.

I will sometimes use my own name, but that's more for a last resort, too impatient to get creative, reason.

I've also taken words/ titles from other places like Tzimisci or Gangrel or Malkavia as from the clan Malkavian.

So to answer the question, all of the above.

Sometimes I'll just alter my name or the name of some wierd god that reminds me of the game: Nigh.

Sometimes I'll do something vulgar: Cicious Vunt (the right way around) is one of my go-tos.

Normally I use my own name, because as someone above me said, it's funny for everyone else to be called Cornelius Darkshiresmanshadowfootspire and to just use your own name. One example was when I was playing Dungeons and Dragons, which I gave up a good while ago because it was starting to lose my interest for whatever reason, and the Dungeon Master's speech went like this:
"O gather round, brave party of adventurers, and listen well. Ye are comprised of four souls most valiant, named Ofamus Rosundio, Rigelius Shadowwalker, Nerolan Tiroladus, and... Colm. For f***'s sake, at least make an effort, Colm! Shit, I mean, let the adventure.. BEGIIIIIN."
It's also fun to have a character named Elamous Nailo.
Although sometimes I find myself calling my characters stuff like Dih Kwielder or Ineeda Strongman so the DM has to say it out loud.
Ha, Voose Lagina.

First characters in a game, I use my usual username, Xai Xo.

After that, my imagination does it.

Ahkfuriah is a favourite, though.

Either my name or a joke name. It depends on how deep into the game I'll be getting. I mostly use the joke names in JRPGs, because I need SOMETHING to make the story interesting.

I write short stories for a hobby; so I have a personal treasure chest of names. I reuse those specific Character names a lot.

Depends on the game. If I ever play pokemon, tend to make things as funny as possible. If it's a good RPG that I actualyl care about, I'll either use my name or the stock name.

I've used names like Ezekiel and Lucied for characters in RPG's. When it comes to other games, like Zelda, I just use my name.

I usually go for serious names... I think I named my commander in Dawn of War II 'Iratus'.
I love using names depicted in the 'Collected Visions' (Horus Heresy) - most of the heros or even regular squads in that book have awesome names. The last ones I used were 'Karggat' and 'Kor Phaeron'.

I always do the same two names:
'Daes Taris' Or 'Tanus Khuun'.
Did you get those from the name generator from Knights of the Old Republic?
Nope!

'Daes' came as a rewording of the band 'Deas Vail'. 'Taris' just jumped into my head.
'Tanus' comes from the Tanis Station in Homeworld 2. And 'Khuun' was the awesome last name of a girl I once knew!
