Can always make a new account, and let's face it, you would have had to have been a jerk to get to that point in the first place.
No, because that's against the rules.
Well if you're getting infractions you've clearly not much care or caution in what rules you obey. As for being able to avoid getting caught, there are plenty of ways.

So I'm yellow for a probation that I got nearly two years ago. Well that sucks!
Oh well, I'll just keep on then.

Don't you mean neigh

Did you see what I did there?

(This is a joke, the person I quoted has a MLP avatar, and I am merely pointing out that his/her response being 'neigh' instead of 'nay' would have been a humourous pun. No offence was intended, any offence incurred is purely coincidental.)
Sir, I am OFFENDED by such a remark! *Takes off gloves and smacks you in the face* A duel, good sir!

OT: Don't really mind them. I don?t use adblock (nor do I want to), I don?t pirate things, use drugs, or own CP, so I think I am safe thus far. I have not gotten a warning yet, and I really want the Neo badge, so I think I will be a good little boy.
I am offended by your offence at my offending you.

Reported!

(This is a joke, no offence is intended. Any offence incurred is purely coincidental.)
And I'm offended by your offense at my offense at your offense.
I... I think we just pulled an Inception...
Well I'm offended by your offense at my offense of-

(This is a joke, I did not detonate a nuclear device, that was a video, nor do I condone the use of nuclear devices in any shape or form, unless of course you are pro nuclear device, in which case, I love nuclear devices. No offence is intended. Any offence incurred is purely coincidental.)

I think you mean "neigh".

EDIT: Now that was a true ninja.
Allow me to fix that, my good fellows.

Well, let's find out!

EDIT: Wow... these new rules seem to be intense, to say the least.

This is... terrible.
I've been a model forum citizen for over a year now, but the few small warnings and probations I received before that are still counted against me?
Dear Escapist, this penalty system needs a partial revision. Seriously. :(

Meh.

The area about effort and communication seems very subjective, but "don't be a jerk" seems pretty standard, as do all other issues addressed.

You go on permanent probation now? Yeesh =/ Things seem a little harsh... mind you, I've never even gotten so much as a warning for anything, but still. Warnings for things like low post content, those add up, and can eventually lead to a ban, the same way that flame war people and trolls are dealt with? That's... not really cool. I guess it's just some hardcore cracking-down. Hopefully it doesn't affect the actual decent conversations that come out of this place, though; I'd be sad if I had to try to find another forum worth posting in.

The new rules don't seem that bad, but if past infractions affect you now...I'm not too sure on that. I'll try and be good I guess.

I don't like the fact that you can never have offenses forgiven now, but I suppose that's their right. Their forum, their rules.

I do have a real problem with ad blockers being lumped in with illegal and adult materials. They are in no way illegal in any jurisdiction I know of, and they certainly aren't adult in nature. Calling them either isn't just silly, it's flat out wrong. It's one thing to say "hey, we don't want you talking about these things" (again, their forums, their rules) it's another to put up false information.

Not advocating anything here, don't use ad blockers myself (unless you count not letting Firefox open popups) but I would like to see some accuracy in the rules.

I originally thought it would be just fine. Just don't act like a jerk, and everything will be OK, right? Then I looked at my "health bar" (cute name, by the way) and saw that I had one point. I was like "where's that from?" looked back at my history, and found out that it was from calling someone a "poopy-head."

I now have a point from calling someone a "poopy-head," and it will never go away? I'll be haunted by "you're a poopy-head" until the end of my Escapist days?
Poppycock! Codswallop! Shenanigans! Bullshit! Other words that express disbelief!
RAWR!

Seriously though, I really don't mind at all. It may keep the idiocy down a bit. Now, if there were legible captchas, this would be the PERFECT FORUM!

How do I type Japanese characters, Mr. Captcha? How?!

You can always refresh the Captcha with the little button if Inglip is in a bad mood.

I've had a chat with Spinwhiz already and, as long as you're polite, he'll try and bring you up to speed - but he will have over 500 letters in his mailbox tomorrow, so try and be polite. :)

Don't care about the punishments but one thing that I see commonly on this website is people being told off for low content posts. Why not just set a lower limit for the number of characters in a post? Then that's one less thing the mods have to worry about and everyone's happy.
Good question. In regards to the other sites I frequent, most people just fill the extra character spaces with crap. We have no doubt members of The Escapist have lots to say, as most of the debates I see are spectacular and most opinions are well thought out and helpful.
Still, sometimes there's not much to say. What counts as low content?
I'm probably waay too late for this, as I said earlier, it's really busy right now and I try to read through this entire thread and answer all of your questions. But it's all in context. There's a huge difference IMO of what constitutes a low content post in R&P in relation to RP&games.

And really, the mods aren't perfect. If one gives you a stupid sentencing that they then refuse to revoke even though you see it as unfair, as does everyone else in the thread, then that gets counted against you forever.
And that's why there's an appeal system.
the appeal system doesn't work. i got put on probation for mentioning i pirated a game that i was going to pay for later even though (on the same day) Steve Butts mentioned that he pirated MULTIPLE games that he paid for later.

hypocrisy much?
This goes back to the report and move on rule, just cuz someone else breaks the rules doesn't give you the right to do the same thing. Did you report Steve Butts? Besides, they handle that kind of stuff internally, so just cuz you don't see him getting punished doesn't mean he's getting off for free.
still. mentioning a foray into piracy counts as advocating piracy? if i say i jaywalked once to get to school on time as a lad does that mean i advocate it? it makes no sense to punish someone for mentioning they did something in the past and then accuse me of ADVOCATING what i did.

So now when you're on probation, you're forever on probation? Aw guys, come the fuck on! Loosen up, eh?
