A user on page 4 got a warning for strongly disagreeing. Is this a new form of censorship? Online censorship? I can see the escapist user base dropping if it keeps up.BTW I'm going to make a stand and post this!

Edit: I found it funny that they say CAPS are against their policy and then I AGREE was in CAPS.

Also low content posts? Can someone please issue a general escapist posting principle (GEPP) on how many words constitutes a low content post?

I can't say I care. I've never been warned myself, nor do I expect I ever will be. It isn't that hard to keep your posts within the rules, so I don't have any problem with the new health bar system.

As someone who just got his first warning 2 days ago, not realizing the low content rule (or that he was breaking it by being the first on these forums to post a link about Anon "vets" accusing other Anon members of the PSN debacle.) I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this Scarlet Letter of a Health Bar.

Had I known my "offense" was going on my permanent record for all to see I would have probably fought it.

I lol'd.

Worst possible way to go about a forum already modded arbitrarily based on what an individual thinks is or is not acceptable.

All but one of my probations have been for things I never said nor implied, at least the "don't be a jerk" rule is a little better defined, but I doubt it's going to stop people for being warned because a moderator doesn't like what they read - whether what they've read is the correct interpretation or not.

I've asked and challenged that a number of times.

Apparently it's whatever the mod decides it is. A mod could be happy with your post that has nothing but an image because the image is representative of a complete idea.
LIkely, though, they want you to add words to your post which actually detract from the meaning, rendering your post impotent because of an arbitrary word count.

Too many people saying "Nah man, go on ahead" for it to be changed or challenged.

I received a warning from a moderator once for "making a post with insufficient content". I'd hate to think I could wind up banned to to a stranger's power-mad caprices.

So these rules make it easier to get banned... what next, I get a probation because I disagree with someone and my disagreeing hurts their feelings.

I'm definitely disagreeing with the whole health bar method of banning. Why make redemption impossible?

Really unhappy with this.

I got a warning for questioning whether the Jimquisition was appropriate for this site, and questioning their integrity.

So, if I disagree with the Escapist four times I'm on probation? Nice and fair guys. I guess I'm not really missing much if I got banned from this site for questioning aspects of it in a discussion board.

I'm probably waay too late for this, as I said earlier, it's really busy right now and I try to read through this entire thread and answer all of your questions. But it's all in context. There's a huge difference IMO of what constitutes a low content post in R&P in relation to RP&games.
I'm sure the moderators know the difference.

One is for forum games, which have short posts, as well as people who EXPECT short posts with little content - Roleplaying and Forum Games

One is for larger debates on tricky subjects like religion and politics - Religion and Politics

But bear in mind you're also getting, what, EIGHT warnings or something?

Yeah, the "strikes never go away" thing is harsh, but is it really that hard for some people not to be douchebags? If it is, perhaps they need to find some other experience that might help them get a handle on that, and this forum just isn't for them.

When you create a system of expiring strikes, you set up a micro-economy. "I can be X much of a dickcheese each month." And guess what? That guy? He's going to be X much of a dickcheese, because that's his "allotment." And he knows that it eventually refreshes, allowing him to repeat the cycle as he wishes.

Now? The cheese has a shelf life. Learn your lesson and stick around... or don't, continually relapse to "cheese status," and take a hike. Not hard at all. And on a forum like this, I'm sorry, there's no "too harsh" a punishment. You know the rules, you know the penalty, anything beyond that is just choice-consequence.
Glad to see some folks understand the numbers of this system well. If you screw up eight times, that's more than enough times for you to get the message that you're doing things that are wrong.

RPs may have a three strike rule, but that's because they are not as extensive as a forum is. Eight strikes is, in my opinion, far more than enough to make a case that a person can be banned.

------------

My record is presently clean, and I intend to keep it that way. However, I am noticing that a lot of the people who are speaking against this are missing the point that these rules do not stop regular, opinionated speech.

They work as a system to deal with people who keep getting infractions and to ensure they are punished in a way that gets them to stop acting childish. In this case, making your infraction limit stick at eight instead of rechecking every infraction, then judging a new one.

To those posting in here that is worried, if these rules are scaring you, take a single day to think about them. Don't TL;DR these rules either. Chances are, you may miss a rule that will come back and bite you in the tail if you do so.

As for me, I'm all for these new rules for the forums.

We did, now you get 4 chances before being put on probation. All we're doing is putting a set number of times you can break a rule before we kick you out of here.

I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with them. One of the reasons the forums are so great is that unpleasant people are eliminated rather quickly. I don't like unpleasant people in real life and I don't like them in the matrix.

I only hope that posts that are witty, or based mostly on a humorous image but that don't add to the discussion, are not treated too harshly. I believe that a good forum conversation should work just like one in real life, and in real life I love a clever remark just as much as something that adds to the discussion.

He would have gotten a warning before the update. Low-content posts have always been against the rules.

My biggest complaint is that I'm being repunished for past infractions. Repunished, of course, in such a way that will NEVER go away. It can never be undone. This actually makes it one of the least forgiving set of laws/rules possible.

I'm pretty close to just throwing up my arms and 'leaving' over this.

Having once recieved 2 warnings for the same post, I don't think this is going to work well for us. Sure it's easy for us not to act like douches, but human error works both ways.

Yep, all sounds pretty straight forward and reasonable, don't see any problem with it, if you did have a problem with it, you probably won't last long :/

I think "advocating pornography" is a pretty hypocritical thing to be getting in trouble for, when it's being administered from the same company that brought you "I Hit It With My Axe", and the whole "might offend someone" thing is stupid to take into account when we've got content on here like Jimquisition and Zero Punctuation which is pretty much designed to be offensive on some level. I don't think they thought any of that that through very well, but I guess it remains to be seen how it's interpreted and how hardcore they get with it.

What's this? Give me two seconds to read it...

Hmmmm, I have to agree with OP on this one, most of it seems fine, your usual rules of conduct, however the health meter does strike me as a bit odd. I didn't see anything wrong with the previous system of punishment so I'm unsure what caused the change. I'm hoping that this part gets revoked, but if not I suppose I'll just have to deal with it.

Well its only been implemented because people don't seem to get the memo no matter how many warnings we set out. Even before I became a mod, I saw several users making low-content post after low-content post.

If you put enough effort into your posts and follow the rules then you won't have to worry about them.
