So, there´s been an update to the rules. If you haven´t seen it, it´ll come up when you try to post.
So anyway, what does the Escapist think of this new set of rules? Yay? Nay? Don´t care?!
Personally, i think the rules are just as good as usual, but the whole forum health meter thing sounds a little unfair. I mean, you can NEVER get strikes back? That sounds kinda impractical.
Let´s be hypothetical here: Let´s say a poster reaches the last zone before a ban, but decides he/she doesn´t like to be banned and stops acting like a twat. 9 months pass with plenty of posts and not a single infraction, but then, this poster makes one post that could be classified as offensive/jerkish etc. And they´re banned. I dunno. Just doesn´t sound fair to me.
I voted "Some yay". If they got rid of the "Forum health meter" i´d be good. I don´t think infractions should be measured in this way.
The forum rules are fine, it's all common sense stuff you'd find anywhere from what I read.
I had an issue with the "health meter" this morning when I found out I was in the yellow right from the start, and spoke to Spinwhiz and got it straightened out, so they are being quite reasonable about it.
As far as not getting "strikes" back, well you'll find that most places with moderation keep track of your behavior, and act off the cuff. At least they're tracking this and creating a non-subjective standard instead of "some mod decided you needed a permaban".
I would like to see a system where strikes would erode after a period of time, especially seeing as you can't get badges when you hit yellow apparently, but I can also see how that could be abused. If it was a system like an employer used and your "points" disappeared after so long, then you might very well see users being obnoxious, waiting for a strike to come off, and then doing it again, and then if questioned about their routine behavior pointing to the health bar and go "har har, you can't ban me without making a joke out of your whole system" assuming the guy hadn't done something undeniably worth an insta-ban.
I try hard to be on my best behavior, so despite some initial alarm (which I won't go into detail on) I don't imagine having many problems under the current system.
Removing strikes would be a nice idea, but it would be tricky to implement in order to avoid abuse. I can't see a way to make it work. I don't plan to have any problems here, but with the time I put in on this site, I do admit the mere thought of getting irreversible marks and getting banned disturbs me... but what alternative is there if your going to keep order on the forums? I mean you have to do something, and if people don't take the moderation seriously, you might as well not have it, and I don't think anyone wants that kind of chaos.
