They are paying for the servers. They can do whateverthehell they want with it. So don't get your panties in a knot.

If you want more servers that accepts F2P players, then you start paying for a server.

I do hope that his is just a very vocal minority that doesn't like the f2p players because I was considering getting TF2 whenever I get a pretty good computer because I had heard such good things about both the game and the community. If this is a very significant chunk of the players I really don't think that I want to get the game and be discriminated against.

Now that's kind of a dick move! "Sorry, you have every right to play this game, but we don't like you, so we're gonna kick you. Bye."
I'd be pissed if that happened to me.

I accidentally clicked this I don't like the idea option.

As a F2P team fortress player, I just think it can't really be a bad thing. Their server, their rules, and it will probably be used by a minority.

I'd rather compare it to kicking a swedish speaker out of a french only server. If they don't want them in, it's not too much of a problem is it? Just find a different server.

I don't support the idea of discrimination, but I do support the idea of doing what you want (within legal conduct of course) with your own server.

While I don't like the idea of this, if the server admins want to use this they have every right to. TF2 multiplayer is under a dedicated server model. So the admins/community of a particular server are directly supporting it out of their own pockets. If they don't want F2P players on their server that they pay for, then they have the right to keep them out.

Had this experience for year anyway even though I bought the game, can't join a single game without being booted for not being their mates, or screamed at over voice for not choosing the class *they* wanted me to play.

Never been able to play a full match on it, had to uninstall and leave it gathering dust. Shame as I really wanted to get into it.

● I don't give a rat's arse about this plugin idea

I am one of those F2P people. I buy a a 0,99 cent item off the shop. I go "Premium" and continue to be the clueless noob that I am. Whereever I want.

Owners of servers are allowed to let whoever they want in, and kick/ban whoever the hell they want. I mean, they're the ones paying for it, and if they want it as a server for only premium people that is there decision.

I bet you all 10 bucks that if a bunch of Pub Club members started kicking you out of off-topic threads because you weren't "pure" enough, you'd be all over their asses on how it's wrong.

If people want to spend their free time with the more experienced,(not saying better, just had more time with the game)and not the random pubbies that have only been playing a week or so, I think they should be free to do that. After all, they are probably the ones renting the server. Why shouldn't they be able to do what they feel is right and be able to enjoy the game how they want? Servers that run the plugin are only a small fraction of servers anyway. It doesn't feel good to be kicked from a server it took you a long time to connect to, but that is just part of the game, you can't really change it. Just because I own the game and play it often doesn't mean I am obligated to help build the community. A server with the plugin would probably be a hotbed of bitterness and longing for the days of yore, so I don't see why anyone but the bitter and nostalgic would want to play on them anyway.

When the is free cheaters can make as many accounts as they feel like when VAC eventually catches them.
You're right! Nobody ON THE PLANET can afford the *GASP* $0.49 to get another paid account! What an effective system!
Oh, sure, a cheater could do that if he chose. But it would, no matter what, be somewhat of a pay gate for cheaters. If you truly insist on cheating then it will cost you money. Aside from that, it's more than half a dollar, as I seem to recall that the Steam wallet has a minimum amount when you fill it up.

And besides, if you are going to pull that argument out, I'd say that the F2P players can damn well pay half a quid and be done with it as well. Problem solved.

Edit:
And aside from that, the servers I play on has a no swearing rule. After the game went F2P I've seen 5 people getting perma banned for swearing. That's a huge increase in ban hammering. Used to be that it was a lot quieter and only decent people came along. It seems that some people don't understand that you have to follow the rules on a server.

Now of course, correlation is not causation, but I'm willing to wager that the increase in swearing twats is to do with the F2P initiative.

Now, we do have quite a large group of admins that do a great job of keeping it all nice, but they can't always be on. So if the server owner decided to implement this, I'd say that he was in his right to do so.

I approve of the plugin. Lately I've found the free to players insufferable. Doing incredibly stupid stuff, constantly going afk, asking to trade on non-trade servers, disgusting sprays (though I guess that's a staple online) mic spamming and just generally being a nuiscance.

Edit: Stop fecking commenting on this, I already elaborated on my feelings later on in the thread.
Sounds like the run of the mill fps player. I fail to see how this is exclusive to people who did not pay for tf2.

Personally I'm pretty indifferent about this thing. I might go be nooby on some of the servers running it, to show them that paying for a game doesn't magically make you good at it.

In answer to 1: No, not all TF2 players who bought the game are super good at it, but they have played longer, know the maps better, and have more and better weapons than the people who just started.
Right...see, the last time I played TF2 was when the Dead Ringer and whatever other Spy-item whose name escapes me came out. By that point, there were a few extra weapons, but the most commonly seen ones were the Kritzkreig and the bow. That's really about it, and I was fine with that. When I played Medic, I still stuck with the Ubercharge, and when I played Sniper, I usually stuck with the sniper rifle.

If the current batch of unlockable weapons are genuinely better than their predecessors, Valve's almost perfectly-honed balance has gone to the pits. And if they're not, then they're mostly gimmick weapons, and therefore having them vs not having them should be irrelevant (Eyelander comes to mind).

Dirty Hipsters said:
In answer to 2: I never said that the F2P players are assholes. I meant that the people who use this plug-in are the assholes. You completely misread that.
Or they're just being ignorant, as it seems to be in your case. I don't sense any actual hatred or ill-will from you towards F2Pers, but you're making rather damaging assumptions about them.

Dirty Hipsters said:
And yes, the majority of the people who do TF2 F2P either never played the game before, or played very little of it, because anyone who had much interest in the game in the first place would have already bought it during the many years of the game's existance up to now. Again, the F2P players aren't worse at the game, but they are in a much less competitive state because they don't know the maps or have any weapons but the basics.
Again, I question the relevance of that, but probably more importantly, why should some people wanting to play the game for fun be an issue? If you're assuming that all people who use F2P are just there to dick around, that's textbook profiling, and not the good kind.

Dirty Hipsters said:
Would YOU want to play with people who constantly insult you through the entire match. No, I didn't think so.
And how would that work, again? I assume it's the same logic as "My TV got stolen, so I hate black people a bit more" being applied to "Someone on my team isn't very good, so I hate F2Pers a bit more." Maybe I missed it, but is there some sort of physical label that identifies F2Pers? Or is it just assumed that people who aren't very good at the game must be playing it for free?

Dirty Hipsters said:
If the people don't want to play with F2P players, and are hostile to them, then what exactly would be the draw for F2P players to WANT to play with them?
What I said above, plus the fact that people using F2P want to play the game. The plugin simply kicks them when they try to join games that use it. It doesn't tell them why they were kicked, or try to connect to games that specifically don't use it.

That is like saying that segregating whites and colors is a good thing because racist white people don't have to be near minorities and minorities don't have to be near racist white people. And yes I know comparing years of racial tension to video games is extremely dumb, but I was mainly going for the shock laughs.

There's nothing wrong with the plugin.

Valve doesn't own the servers, they're owned by people who play the game(usually, sometimes owned by companies). If those owners don't want F2P people on their servers, it's their right to do that. You're not paying for the servers, hell, you didn't even pay for the game. Don't *****, just move on.

And those of you comparing this to segregation of races: You're an idiot.

Technically, you need to spend $5, not 99 cents. You can't have anything less than $5 Dollars in your steam wallet. You CAN buy a 99 cent item, but you'd have an extra $4 just sitting there doing nothing.

Not all free to players consider TF2 to be worth the money it would cost. Many of them don't have the money to buy a prepaid card/etc to buy the small purchase.

Besides, what makes them (overtly) inferior players with less of a right to enjoy the game than a paid player?

They have every right to enjoy the game for sure. That not the same as saying that they have a god given right to be on every server there is. It's not different from passworded servers. The admin decides who enters. And if he decides to use the plugin, be it for easing the workload of banning cheaters and twats, or because he doesn't like F2P players, then noone has grounds to be mad about that. If people are so outraged I suggest the rent their own servers and play on them. You can even reverse implement the plugin so it keeps out premium players.

I actually like this idea.
The problem with the new players is that they think they're amazing at the game, regardless of the fact that most of them have no idea what they're doing, and they ruin it for anyone who's actually trying to play.
