I liked both Pokemon and Digimon, but ultimately, I would chose Pokemon because the games have kept me interested (though the last couple have been a disappointment). As far as shows go, both were also great, but started diminishing in quality as the years went on. I stopped watching Pokemon towards the end of the Hoenn series (because of the inconsistencies and errors with the game; Guillotine as a normal attack and not a 1-Hit KO?) and Digimon: Data Squad was just awful.

None, Medabots i preferred a show with more humour and took it self less serious then Pokemon, Digi, Beyblade, Yugi-oh.

Was more fun to watch and in some regards more Diverse as well. Action was better animated as well against just Elemental Attacks, or brawn attacks.

I prefer Digimon because it had a story with clear goals and a cast of likable, believable characters, plus it's modern incarnations are actually trying new things.

Pokemon has always been little more than formulaic, weekly nonsense, and any given new episode is pretty much the same as it was back in the 90's/Showa Era, just with a different token girl character and a new roster of 'mons. Enjoyable, but not really worth giving any kind of real thought after the end-credits roll.

Also, I feel I should clarify that it's the original Japanese version of Digimon that I'm praising. Saban's dubbed completely butchered pretty much everything the series had going for it over Pokemon and I shall box your ears in and kick you in the shin if you disagree, good sir!

Digimon had a better story, because it wasn't about feeding an obsessive-compulsive craze to capture the monsters it showed- it actually tried to use them as characters in its story. It helped that the monsters in Digimon could actually talk.

Pokemon... well, we all know what the TV show was like, and it had its moments, but let's be plain- It was about capturing monsters to fight other monsters.

In simples -

I have NEVER gone back to rewatching the old Pokémon cartoon, nor have I played any of the recent games. I did however go back and watch the third (and ONLY the Third) season of Digimon. With that said, I'm indifferant on both, but you could say I like Digimon slightly more.

I'm re watching Pokemon with my girlfriend who missed it the first time through.

I loved the games, cards, and show. Not to mention the merch.

Digimon though, it got slated at my school as a cheap knock off and everyone turned up their nose at it. Once I moved to QLD it was a little more popular, and as I was approaching 12 pokemon had been and gone so I got into the little toy/tamagochi things.

I don't recall the Digimon show though.

To quote an often ignored truth, "The truth of the matter is Pokemon is originally a ripoff of Monster Rancher and Digimon is originally a ripoff of Tamagotchi and both have anime series for the sole reason that all the Japanese do all day is make animes, games and porn of everything in existence."

I love the Pokemon games, and I'm not really a fan of the Pokemon anime. I like the Digimon games, and I like the Digimon anime. Screw any argument as to which is "better". Everyone has their own personal preferences.

I just support Digimon since Pokemon's had ages of fandom, making it something that people around the world will never forget. Because of the higher budget for Pokemon outside of Japan due to better advertising strategies, people often accept Pokemon as the superior and Digimon as a rip-off. I find it kind of sad that Digimon has just about died outside Japan when it's still got plenty of potential. The only new piece of the Digimon franchise that has made its way outside of Japan is a Korean MMO. A lot of the half-baked Digimon games could have been made better with a little more time and money.

So who is to blame? No, not the fans, not the sales, and definitely not the franchise. Personally, I believe this is the fault of 4Kids and Stuart Snyder for their xenophobic censorships.

Digimon did get only slightly later then pokemon. But yeah pokemon wins out for me!

I also think that the basic use of "x versus y" with weaknesses and strengths works very well.

Digimon never really pulled me in!

I loved the Pokémon games (both video and card varieties) but I thought the Digimon tv show was better. However, only Pokémon has stuck with me I've lost my interest in Digimon over the years but I still play a bit of Pokémon from time to time.

Pokemon.

Anyone here remember monster rancher? I liked that the main character in that wasn't some helpless kid.. he actually fought the monsters himself, which I loved. Pitty they ruined the ending though.. they built up through the entire series that he was really the phoenix, then in the last episode some editor or something decided to pull the rug and make him go home to boring-ville and have all his companions die.

So, okay, I'm about to get really nerdy, so bear with me:

The first season of digimon had a great plot, and the series always had a lot more going for it than Pokemon's... But, Pokemon was THE game when it came out (for kids anyway), an epic JRPG where you can battle and trade with your friends. Epic.

So, my vote totally goes to Pokemon (even if its plot is terrible aside from a few neat activist statements).

Plus, Pokemon was totally my gateway drug to Final Fanatasy, which is what changed me from a moderate gamer mostly focused on fighting games and socializing to a HARDCORE single player gamer who's only concern is plot and that satisfying level up sound.

I prefer Pokemon over Digimon. I enjoyed the show and I love the games. As for Digimon, never enjoyed the show and hated their games.

I'm glad I didn't watch the whole series if that's how it ended. Still, those games were epic! There was just something sweet about getting a beastly monster from your favorite CD, which if I recall right was either Linkin Park or the Wu-Tang Clan at the time. Ah, middle school.

Try starting a little less than halfway in. Digimon shows always spend the first ten to twelve episodes being annoyingly cute before the first legit threat shows up and while they'll still decend into little kid show from time to time they tend to be pretty good after that point.
Eh... maybe I will. Sometime. Right now I'm busy digging my way through Naruto.
I do remember some of the great antagonists of Digimon, but I just didn't remember the show to be this cutesy and annoying during times when there's no bigshot villain around. -.-°

I grew up on both, but I preferred Digimon.
I still love series 3 of the TV show. You have to admit, it's pretty good. The first 3 Digimon World games are great too.

I watched and greatly enjoyed both as a kid, but I would have to say that I like(d) Digimon better. There was a greater connection between the digimon and their partners than with pokemon (excluding Ash and Pikachu), and there was actually a reason for all the fighting other than = dogfighting. (please know that I am rationalizing my preferance here and now, I did not conciously think of these reasons as child.)

I clearly remember knowing Digimon was pretty much a ripoff of Pokemon
Digimon was not a rip off of Pokemon. Digimon started off as a tomagachi type thing while Pokemon started off as, well, Pokemon.

Pokemon games were (still are) more fun to play where as Digimon had a more interesting story.
