Occasionally. I'd say two weekends in a month.

What annoys me with this topic is that some people seem to forget that they are dealing with a drug. Harmless when compared to hard drugs, but still, a drug. Using cannabis responsibly is important. Like with alcohol: Try not to lose yourself completely in the sensation. If that happens, problems are likely to arise.

I wish people would as critical with alcohol as they are with cannabis.

I have tried it and it was pretty cool although it was at a low point in my life where I was going through a lot of crap. Not a time I want to remember.

Its the sort of thing I wont go near (anymore) while its illegal. If its ever legalised I may consider occasional social use but its hard to say right now.

I've never used it, and I never will. It's not because I think it's evil or think it can or will kill me or harm me in any way.

It's because I'm simply not interested.

Same here. But I've always had a fasination with drug art though, but to actually do it no.

I've done it once or twice. Really, I know and have heard the arguments for and against legalisation/de-riminilisation of the stuff so often I've adopted a rather neutral stance.

It's alright, I suppose, but nothing to get ones 'panties-in-a-knot' over. I do enjoy the idea of government grown and taxed joints, though.

It tickles me pink.

I never have had any cannabis, and probably won't ever. I wouldn't take it even if it was offered to me, just in case it is bad for you, or it's the rough stuff from the streets or if I would start to rely on it. I don't really believe what everyone tells me about when it comes to the health risks involved, I'd even like to see it legalised, but no, I would never take it, just out of fear.

It works better for me than alcohol, to be honest. It keeps me on a level, rather than flying off into mania or depression, and given the amount of alcohol compared to pot I have to consume to reach the level I'm comfortable, it's also cheaper for me to smoke pot.

That said, I haven't done it recently.

Tried it a couple of times, one time smoking, couldn't stand it, it really stinks when burned, but I then tried it in brownies and chocolate milk and its a damn tasty spice to be honest.

Never did get really high on it, seems the effects are rather mild when not smoking, or I'm just not that susceptible to it, and unlike alcohol I only have good memories from it.

I like to believe everyone knows by now why it was outlawed, so I won't even comment on that.

Drugs are bad. Otherwise they wouldn't be Illegal.

I'm also getting tired of these threads on Cannabis. Ok I may have made one of my own in the past, but that was on a slightly different issue that got sidetracked.

If you can't be bothered to read the many replies this thread will get allow me to summarise Escapist cannabis threads:

Points people Make:

1. "Cannabis does little harm, and it's only illegal because the Government doesn't want to back down on public health statements it has made in the past."

2. "Cannabis increases the risk and severity of mental disorders as well as cancer in the same vein as tobacco (since they are regularly mixed together)"

3. "Making it legal would reduce crime and bring in tax revenue"

4. "It's just as dangerous as Alcohol and Tobacco, and that is no reason to legalise it"

5. "The government shouldn't interfere. If people want to smoke then let them"

Those are the points you will read if you read the rest of the thread. None of them are really well established and the entire issue is clouded by contradictory morality, issues of freedom, economics, and science.

Never tried it... Hate the smell...

Although, I don't think it should be illegal... Like alcohol, there should be an age restriction... 24 to 27, thats around the time when a persons brain stops devolping and when its perfectly safe to use the stuff...

There are no reasons to legalize it other than people wanting a rationale for their drug habit. It's a drug, just like any other drug, and if you legalize it, society as a whole is just going to end up paying for it.

Again? Really?
This... is getting very old. But oh well.
Haven't tried it, have no interest in it so won't.
If you want to, go for it. I am getting very sick of a few of the justifications though, like "It's completely harmless because it's natural".
That particular one irks me to no end.
To which I hereby respond once and for all:
No.
Something being natural does not make it 100% safe. Don't know the last time you were out in nature, but nature can be pretty bloody deadly. Herbs in particular. I can name 10 off the top of my head that kill you instantly.

Again. People want to use it, go for it, I don't care, but can we stop using that particular justification? Please?

Had a few puffs once. Was meh.

Physiologically, it does a lot less damage than alcohol.

Societal damage is only occuring because it's underground. Seriously, get 10,000 people drunk and you've got a riot. Get 10,000 people stoned and you've got... Woodstock.

There are thousands of people dying each year by overdosing on prescription medications and only one death directly to cannabis has been recorded.

If you look at the way that hemp fibre could potentially replace traditional oil-based products, and the strength of the Energy lobby alone in the US you can see why it's actually illegal and not just this blind 'drugs are bad' FOX drivel that seems to somehow permeate the skulls of so many Americans.

Yes, there are negative effects, but the magnitude is negligible compared to things that are already legal. It's the 'nanny state' mentality holding that 'people may only damage their bodies the way we tell them to.'

You can't give blood if you've used cannabis? Where do you live?

Here in NZ, injecting or snorting drugs stops you from being able to give blood. Not cannabis though, as far as i'm aware.

And how would society end up paying for it? As in, what would be the negative consequences for legalizing marijuana?

I'm okay with my university friends lighting one up around me, I just move to avoid the fumes. They've already heard the arguments a thousand times and I'm not about to lecture them. Occasionally they'll offer me some and I'll reply like I've always replied. "Never. Not for me."

I've been drinking for social occasions and I think that is enough. I'm still Sober 6/7 days a week.

If I can't avoid the fumes in a room, I'll just duck outside and get some fresh air.

Good thing you got your suit on.

You do know alcohol is a drug, too? And tobacco? And caffeine. All of which are more addictive than marijuana. http://www.myaddiction.com/education/articles/caffeine_addiction.html is rather informative, at least as far as caffeine goes.

And marijuana isn't even that harmful. Really the only negative effects are on your lungs, and using a vaporiser or baking it into food eliminates that. As for the mental effects, when was the last time somebody smoked weed and then killed their wife? Or crashed their car? When was the last time someone did the same things under the influence of alcohol? The double standard here is ridiculous. If you want marijuana illegal, you should be lobbying for prohibition of alcohol as well.
