I do not find phone sex to be something that I am interested in. I had a girlfriend who lived a couple hundred miles away for a few months and she insisted on it. I had to fake phone sex with her multiple times, I tried to get into it the first few times and it just wouldn't work.

Wait... okay, it wasn't phone SEX but there was a little phone... friskiness back when I was in high school. My very first girlfriend, in fact, back when I was still figuring the whole 'bisexual' thing out. It never got to phone sex, but... it got a little warm, anyway. I took care of myself afterwards (not during) so... yeah.

I'd say I should try it now, but honestly, why have phone sex when I can have actual sex? Phone sex is usually for when you can't be near the person you want to be having sex with.

No. I would not recommend having sex with a phone. Something's eventually getting stuck somewhere, and you won't be able to call emergency.

I've done the phonesex. The girl I was with at the time was really into it, and she had an orgasm every time. (yes I do know. she was a terrible liar.) It was fun for a while, but it gets old. I would never pay for it.

I don't believe it's awkward, and I definitely prefer it to texting or cybering (both I do a lot). I did it three times this week.
