Lets get something out of the way: I am a 16 year old American male who is in the stage of "I'm not a kid anymore, I wanna watch bad-ass, violent movies" and as such I almost never see any G rated movies anymore, let alone kids animated movies.

There, now for the kicker, I fucking Love Pixar. I have seen all their movies (though for some its been awhile) and they have yet to disappoint. I thought, very seriously, that i was not going to see WALL-E because it was gonna be really stupid and boring, but it turned out to be my favorite Pixar movie. Today I saw toy story 3, and it was amazing. why is this? why can Pixar so consistently make good movies?

that is my question, escapists, why are Pixar movies so awesome, and if they don't tickle your fancy, then why are they not-so-good? Specifics are welcomed.

Well of course everyone loves Pixar. They're Pixar!
I think adults can enjoy the films as well, as they always have an underlying dark theme in them. Toy Story has been about dying I think, Monsters Inc. was about the energy shortage (And corruption), Up was about losing your loved ones (Not quite sure on that 'un) etc.
The little kids don't quite realise it, so they aren't too disturbed, but it means the adults can enjoy it too.

I love the Pixar movies [though I have missed one or two...I know I missed Cars] and am curious about weather or not they take place in the same World >.>

Anyway: I haven't seen Toy Story 3 yet. I rented the first 2 and am on the second in anticipation of seeing the third tonight x3

I haven't seen WALL-E either!

I'd have to say amazing. They have never made a film I didn't love. Wall-E is probably my favorite animated film of all time.

...There are people that hate Pixar?

Seriously?

These people have no soul.

But part of the reason is that Pixar doesn't just make a movie to make a quick buck, they don't run franchises into the ground, and they aren't really kid movies. They are everyone movies.

Pretty much what Ajimbo said. Awesome is awesome, I don't care who the supposed "target audience" is. What's wrong with going from smiling over WALL-E to... all the "mature" stuff in one day? And as to "Why is Pixar awesome?" ... How could they NOT be awesome?

I have not enjoyed any of their stuff personally, you know, weened on stuff like Ren & Stimpy & Duckman as a kid, but there are worse things.... You know how Asylum likes to make rip-offs of movies? Well Pixar/Dreamworks has their own Asylum, & their stuff is a nightmare.

This guy has some uploaded on his playlists; watch them if you dare. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheWorstMoviesEver#p/p

A) Grow up.

B) Pixar is the most amazing studio in the industry. Spoiler tag below is for Toy Story 3. It will be heavy with spoilers for Toy Story 3. Do not click on it if you have not seen Toy Story 3.

I have never before been brought to tears out of suspense. SUSPENSE! Not cheap musical montages, character deaths, or sappy romance stories... But suspense. As the toys drifted into the incinerator and they all joined hands and accepted their fate, I felt like my childhood was drifting with them. Dear god, such... Raw emotion was pulled from me in an animated fiction about TOYS. I've never felt that way during a film, and I probably never will again.

But all of that aside, they're just intensely good at their jobs. Their movies are brilliantly animated (Toy Story 1 STILL looks great today) and the stories are amazingly crafted. The closest thing to a slacker film they've ever made is Cars, and that wasn't even so bad. Pixar should definitely move into something other than movies for children. I've heard a lot of negativity over Toy Story 3 for being so dark, but I saw it as a major step forward. Pixar is capable of things far more mature than their core audience can handle, and I'd like to see them tackle something that isn't aimed at all-age audiences.

Love. Beyond the extent to which it is possible to love an animation studio.

Everything they've made so far gets a 10 from me. Except Cars and Ratatouille. Those both get
9's.

And Wall-E. That gets a 14.

And Up, which I still haven't seen yet. I need to get on that...

i have never met anyone who doesnt like pixar, but i figured id put the option in just in case.

and all of that last part is spot on imo. cars is going to be the second out of 9 franchises i believe to get a sequel. (its on wiki, too lazy to get link) i think that might be a big part of it, is the creative storys, always original.

Pixar movies are great. They are funny, charming and always seem to have a good amount of heart. Combine that with damned good animation and a tonne of childhood nostalgia and yeah I guess I could say I love them.

Total bullshit. Not only was that story closed and complete, but that movie felt like a Dreamworks piece.

Toy Story series > Every other Pixar movie aside from Cars > How to Train Your Dragon > Shrek > Cars > Every other Dreamworks movie

Shark Tale 2, anyone?

Pixar deserves their own crossover fighting game series.
Super Pixar Bros

Wall-E vs Kevin the snipe
Lightning McQueen vs Slinky

GASP!

BUZZ VS WOODY

I love their movies, and I'm 18. Saw Wall-E just last year on a DVD, loved it too. Loved Toy Story, Bug's Life, freaking adore Monsters Inc and pray that the sequel will be even better, Nemo was awesome too, Incredibles as well. Haven't watched Up or Cars or the rat-chef one yet.

Still, it seems to me like only Pixar knows how to make a sequel. Dreamworks... not so much.

Actually, they got hit by a bulldozer upon arrival. I thought they were killed off, to be honest. That's what made the incinerator scene so much more impacting for me. I couldn't think of any conceivable way for them to escape. I hadn't realized the aliens survived.
