I was watching AVGN and in the latest episode he named his 2 characters from Final Fantasy III 'Shits' and 'Assbag'. I also remember Yahtzee naming his characters 'Fagballs' and other naughty words.

So I was wondering - does anyone here name their characters really funny names?

I personally don't, but lets put it to a poll to see how many do and, if you do, what types of names do you call them?

REMEMBER: This does not include games where you MUST give characters their own names i.e. online names. Only offline games like the Zelda and Final Fantasy series.

Mods, I understand there's a likely chance there's going to be lots of curse words in this thread so please people, if there's a name you use that you think is going to really offend i.e it's racist, please don't bother putting it up. Many thanks.

No, I just use the TR Name Generator or my imagination.

Because I'm not that immature.

If a character has an established name, I don't usually deviate from it. Link is always Link, for example.

When I was really little, though, when playing Final Fantasy II, I used to rename Cecil "Boob" right before climbing Mt. Ordeals, so when you reached the inner chamber and the doppleganger attacked you, Tellah would yell "There's TWO Boobs?!" I thought it was funny at the time.

No I've never abused a game's name entry system. I have replaced character's names when given the opportunity, but never with anything rude or perverted. I guess I've never been that immature.

Not really. I'll name my rival something like De Oosh in Pokemon, but that's because I don't like him. As for my pokemon, I usually have a theme to it. Once I decided to give my pokemon all German names.

Sometimes I'll do something with my WoW characters, but it has some purpose. I have a level 1 undead warrior named Brains that I use to walk around Northshire Abbey. Another character was an orc Shaman named VanHelscream that I made back in the day before shaman became open to alliance. I would tell people I was a gnome hunter and nobody understood the reference or thought VanHellscream was taken.

I named Link "I Say" once. Made for a really hilarious hour or so, then the novelty of it went away.

I used to always rename characters in games, and when I did it was always names I thought up myself that work in a fantasy setting. When it comes down to it now tho i leave the names the same because they are characters unique to that story. I find avgn and yahtzee entertaining, but to see 30 year old men shout out cockbag and donkey shit every 2 words(more so from avgn) isnt funny in the least. When I was 12 playing FF4, my friends game had names like that and I remember thinking it wasnt funny and immature then...

I can't remember them but I gave my character and his rival dumb name on Pokemon Soul Silver. I also named my characters Wiggles and Willy in Oblivion.

One time I did. I named ramza from FF:tactics mybitch. It was pretty funny.

90% of the time I just use their normal name, but most games I play dont even give you a chance to name characters. If I dont use the characters normal name, I usually give them the name of another game character. So I use it from time to time, but I rarely abuse it.

Off topic: Itd be awesome if a game gave you the oppurtunity to name enmies, to make even boss battles and random encounters hilarious. I dont know how theyd be able to do that though.

I usually do of whatever fandom I happen to like at the time when it comes to renaming unless I like the person's name.

I know a kid who used to name all his characters "9" because he did a random analog stick flail naming a character one time and it landed on 9, so hence he uses that all the time.

I have a tendency to call my character in MW2 "Twatface McIcantseemtoshootenemiesthreefeetaheadofmebecauseapparentlywhenyoushootasniperrifleitdoesntgostraightfromthebarrelohnono
itcangoanywherefromstraightforwardtoa90degreeangleorflybehindyouandtakeoutoneofyourmates!"

Its a mouth full but i think its appropriate.

Nope, doesn't feel right to change a characters name.

Oh and in some games like FFVIII if you rename a certain character it locks something to you later on in the game though I don't remember what that was.

Very very rarely. The only one i did so consistently was renaming Red XIII to Nanaki in FFVII

I never rename already made characters. If I can customize the character I will name it though.
