If its a game like Zelda I never change the name on my first playthrough. Subsequent playthroughs get different names so I know which is which.

And in games where you name your otherwise nameless character I give them appropriate names, not something like "Fagballs".

Sometimes I do, most of the time I don't. If I have played the game before I rename the characters the nicknames I gave them (In FFVII Barrett was Barry and Red XIII was Nanaki). In games where you recruit new members and can choose their names (like Disgaea), I give them names based on their class (my first healer is always named Chernobyl and at least one chick is named Eros for instance). But otherwise I do not touch names.

Nah I never give my characters stupid names I always like my characters to have a cool name.

Actually I tell a lie. I once called Aerith on Final Fantasy 7 "*****" or something stupid. But that's because I REALLY hate her. But she's also the only character I have ever renamed in any of the older Final Fantasy's I usually just keep their original names.

I usually rename the character I?m playing as but leave all the other characters with their names. Not usually anything silly though, just my own name. It?s mostly a way to distinguish between saves.

I don't tend to name my characters stupid stuff unless I'm feeling out of it or just in the mood.

I have a few particular names I almost ALWAYS use.

Clever. I tend to name my pokemon the name of a different pokemon. Such as naming Mankey RHYDON.

I renamed Link by accident, once.

Turns out renaming your profile renames your character.

I named my main character on Morrowind: Only-He-Will-Eat as a homage to Only-He-Stands-There.

Aside from that, I tend to just name all my characters Dubcek after my favourite communist.

With my vote no it's a tie 69:69.
I used to do that when I was younger. Pokemon was particularly funny. But now I just kind of think it's stupid.

Aww....I broke the tie breaker! D:

lol Yes I always name my characters something different if I can. Well, except Pokemon. There's only so many names you can think up for 493+ monsters. D: Though I still try.

I normally name them a good name, not an immature one.
I normally use Khaiseri in singleplayer as well.

If they have canon names I don't tend to change them, though in Persona 3 and 4 I use their Un-official manga names, Minato Arisato and Souji Seta respectively, since they have no Canon name.

My sister does this. I however, do not...unless it's something like Mass Effect, etc.

Then I make the character truly my own.

Never. I always keep the "correct" character names in those types of games. At the same time, I almost never play those kinds of games anymore, so... who knows what it would be like now.

I usually name my characters Asshat. Or when playing Zelda games, naming Link "I say" is pretty cool.. till the novelty wears off..
