My little brother and I recently had a discussion over what kinds of Pokemon Trainers there are.

As you all are aware, (if you've played a Pokemon Game in the last few years), there are 'types' of trainers that you can face, from Bug Hunters to Fire Breathers and Swimmers and Psychics, there are many kinds of trainers.

But what kind of trainer are YOU, my dear Escapists? Everyone has a prefrence to Pokemon type and what they like to train overall. So what kind of trainer are you, and what's your perfect team?

Personally, I'm a Fire Trainer, simply because there are less Fire Type pokemon and I seem to have a better time training them then, say, a Water Type.

My perfect team:
Charizard/Blaziken/Typhlosion
Nine Tails
Hound Doom
Flarion
Arcanine
Rapidash
---------

SO I ask again Escapists: What's your trainer type and what's your favorite/perfect team?

Edit: To add to this topic as a discussion point, why do you like your type over other types, and how would you convince a trainer of another type to try your type?

Keeping it cool with Water and Ice.

They can do everything. From tank to wall to sweep. And they can kill everything. Except themselves...

Perfect team:

Empoleon
Abomasnow
Lapras
Swampert
Kingdra
Weavile

I like Water for its massive diversity, and large number of pokemon.

I like Ice for its rarity AND balance. Dragons are rare, but too strong.

And the fact that Surf is actually an HM that's amazing on offense.

I convince you to try it by showing you the lethality of Hail/Blizzard. And the power of Rain Dance/Thunder, since a large number of water type can learn Thunder.

I'm going as balanced as possible, but my favourite is as following:

Charizard
Jolteon
Alakazam
Dragonite
Gyarados
Articuno

That's usually the team I end up with. I'm curious how my Soul Silver team will end up, though.

I have 2 strategies.

The first is to establish a good team of different Pokemon early on, then training them all equally. This can be tedious as a lot of grinding is needed to keep it all balanced.

Then we have the power leveling strategy, where I take my starter Pokemon, and fuck shit up! It doesn't matter if the Pokemon League brings out water pokemons against my fire pokemons, I one-hit them with normal attacks!

Also, my perfect team would be:

Metapod
Metapod
Metapod
Metapod
Metapod
Metapod

Except I wouldn't call them Metapod. I would call them-This message has been purged for being a totally unoriginal and unfunny joke. Mod.

Gotta say out of that list I'm going with Thunder/Dragon.

The Dratini family was always my favorite and Thunder types like Voltorb and Magnemite I always liked. Oh and the massively innuendo poll made me lol.

Fire is the best type (to me....) by far.

So, I would agree with you.

My team would just be:

Arcanine
Flareon
Typhlosion
Houndoom
Ursaring
Salamence

For the last two (Ursaring and Salamence), Salamence can learn fire-type attacks, and is resistant to them. Ursaring just gives raw power to the team. Both seem to balance out the other Fire-types quite well
That they do, but that feels a little bit like cheating to me. I guess Dragon-Types semi-count as Fire types, but Ursaring just kinda confuses me. But in any case, that seems like a pretty good team.

My current team is- Metagross,Feraligator, thyplosion,Cradily,Lucario, and dragonair so i guess i more favor the steel, fighting, rock combo listed. I like high defense and it usually make me at least annoying to try and beat.

I try to get a bit of everything that's on the list and will usually criss cross different move types with TMs. Teaching my Octillery zap cannon, flame thrower, solar beam and ice beam in Pokemon Gold was a whoot.

Hahahah
Nice.

OP- Electric types and dragon types are overall two of the best types with their lack of numerous weaknesses and good offensive power.

I still voted for dark/psychic/ghost, because Alakazam kicks ass.

((Side note: The last option in the polls are for the people who go for the all around balance teams. Just a FYI.))

On-Topic: Like I said, the fire-type pokemon always clicked with me (except for that weird little... monkey thing from the fourth gen...) and they excel against almost all types, and most of them can learn fighting/dark/ground type attacks as well, and that can help deal with the types that fire-attacks are NOT effective against.

Since my team is made up of Eevee evolutions: Everything except Flying?

But I'll take Psychic if that's a non-answer. Psychic=Awesome.

there is still NO pure Flying type, though. So, you cover a very broad spectrum.

I prefer to balance my team. However, I do like Psychic and Steel types.

If I had to, my Psychic team would be:
Lucario, Gardevoir, Porygon-Z, Togekiss, Slowking, and Jynx.

My Steel-type team:
Lucario, Steelix, Metagross, Skarmory, Empoleon, and Magnezone.

My balanced team changes depending on what version I'm playing.

Pokemon Hunter. Defently Pokemon Hunter.

That goes for (again) pretty much everyone that aims for a balanced team instead of mostly (or in my case, compleatly) focusing in on one type of Pokemon or another.

I like to have a balanced team, one of each type preferably. The last full team I had was on Platinum and as far as I remember it was

Infernape
Roserade
Staraptor
Luxray
Weavile
Garchomp

My current team on Soul Silver is

Typhlosion
Meganium
Feraligatr

I'd be water because I love love love Polywrath!
or bug because I have a Venomoth and Butterfree at high levels.

My friends, once my butterfree uses sleeppowder on you, the battle is mine!

He has 130 base stat as a normal type.

That is on-par with Machamp, Absol, Ho-oh, Flareon, and Scizor.,

Combine that was the versatility of normal types, and you have kick-ass.

Besides, Fire-types are about offense. Why not have a super-powerful normal type to mix it up?
True I suppose. I'm a bit of a 'purest' in that sense, as it has to be a main fire-type pokemon to make my team (or I guess a dragon type would be ok.)

But you bring up a good point.

@Eerors: My friend, once your butterfree has been burnt to a pretty, sparkly little crisp, there isn't anything there to use sleeppowder in the first place ;)

But that's just coming from the fire trainer >3
