I've always been partial to Espeon and Umbreon.

But my team is currently:

Espeon
Swampert
Charizard
Lucario
Porygon-Z
Leafeon

Always been primarily an Ice/Water person since Blue Version. When Crystal came around (Still the best game of Pokemon IMO to this day), I added Dark to my team. On my Crystal ROM, I have my "All around team". The only constant that I've had on every game, even recent versions, are Lapras and Articuno. They're always permanent.

Blue Version:
Blastoise
Articuno
Lapras
Vaporeon
Porygon
Kangaskhan

Switch to Crystal:
Articuno
Lapras
Umbreon
Sneasel
Suicune
Miltank

Keeping it cool with Water and Ice.

They can do everything. From tank to wall to sweep. And they can kill everything. Except themselves...

Perfect team:

Empoleon
Abomasnow
Lapras
Swampert
Kingdra
Weavile

I like Water for its massive diversity, and large number of pokemon.

I like Ice for its rarity AND balance. Dragons are rare, but too strong.

And the fact that Surf is actually an HM that's amazing on offense.

I convince you to try it by showing you the lethality of Hail/Blizzard. And the power of Rain Dance/Thunder, since a large number of water type can learn Thunder.
Seriously?

Water types can learn Thunder?

I gotta' try that.

OT: I like Water types also.

My team would be:

Blastoise
Empoleon
Swampert
Feraligatr
Kyogre
Suicune

As soon as I get far enough in SoulSilver, I'll be able to assemble this team.

I already have An Empoleon Feraligatr and Blastoise; just need the other three.

Before I retired, I'd never limit myself to just one type. Always like to have on hand at least one fire, one electric, one water/ice, one psychic, one grass, and one other (other can vary depending on my mood).

I think I ended up being a dog trainer, all my favourates are some kind of dog. I know its not a proper type and i have inclued way too many noobish legendary pokemon and far too many fire types for this to be balanced i still like it (and hate evee).

Suicune, Houndoom, Entei, Arcanine, Raikou and Typhlosion (I thought about ninetails but i just HAVE to keep my starter)

Im not even that keen on dogs in real life, but once i started hunting down all the legendary dogs in Crystal I got my heart set on it, and it was bloody hard to beat RED at the end of it, but after the blastoise killed my Raikou suicuine finished it off and the rest as I say is history

When I play I have a very varied team to make sure I can get a 'Super Effective' on most pokemon. Still, ideally, I'd love a dark/ghost/psychic team. Usually I have a ghost and psychic in my squad.

I do love me some Steel-types, but I try for a balanced team. And I am of the opinion that removing your starter from the team lineup is a blasphemy and affront to all that is good and pure in the universe. And not in a good way.

I always have a well balanced team, consisting of six Pokemon of types Fire, Water, Flying, Electric, Psychic, Ground. However, also given a choice I prefer an Eevolution team consisting of:

- Flareon
- Jolteon
- Vaporeon
- Espeon
- Umbreon
- Glaceon

However, in terms of my ideal choices and the poll itself, I prefer Dark and Psychic types :D.

I go balanced in my games, but I had to pick just one type, I'd go Flying. So much variation, almost every type is covered in flying.

Dream Team:
Charizard
Gyarados
Xatu
Dragonite
Skarmory
Gliscor

I'm a Gold and Silver guy.

Everything else is just too much for me and I lost interest. But my perfect team up to that point was...

1-Lead off/Quick Shot- Jolteon
2-Heavy Hitter- Tyranitar
3-Diversity/Heavy Hitter- Dragonite
4-Staller/Heavy Hitter- Kingdra
5-Quick Shot/Status Changer- Arcanine

IF I want to have a legendary I would choose

6a-Heavy Hitter/Staller-Lugia

If I don't want to use a legendary I would choose

6b-Staller/Status Changer- Steelix

I would put their move list down but that would take a really long time.

The poll has a disturbing amount of sexual connotations.

And I always had a varying team of many different types, though occasionally I would favor steel and dragon. But I always ensured their movesets were of all the colors of the rainbow. Well, the good colors. Ice, Fighting, and Ground type attacks are super effective against the most types, so I used them alot.

In Soul Silver, I am going to have two parties. One is my standard variety party and the other is a bird party which is going to be badass when I finish it.

Variety:
-Feraligatr
-Pidgeot
-Hypno
-Golem
-Kangaskhan
-Magmortar

Bird:
-Pidgeot
-Delibird
-Honchkrow
-Skarmory
-Xatu
-Pelipper

I can't wait to finish my bird party. So far I have Pidgeot, Delibird, and a Murkrow that I need to evolve.

I try whatever's good at the time. If I was one of those trainer's I would either be a Poison or a Ghost-type.
Also, you forgot Normal-type.

I think Rock types are pretty underrated. They're capable of holding well against anything apart from their direct weaknesses, so, if used intelligently, they fuckin' rule IMO.
