I'm a NZ colonial...with the usual mongrel pedigree (English, Scottish, Manx...it's all in there somewhere), but since my lot came out here like 150 years ago, I'm not sure I'd actually identify as British. Even being in the Commonwealth has practically bugger all advantages these days.

OT: I guess no, but only because I'm rather distantly 'British'. As for being a Kiwi, I guess I am proud of that. We have a pretty good outlook.

Technically you're both. I am English and would classify myself as such but I'm still British. Regardless of how proud of it you are you still are British.

Pfft, I bet you think there're 6 star wars movies or 3 matrix movies, too. See, some Scottish folk, not most, prefer to close their eyes and forget they're connected to the rest of Britain...

I love my country, I truely do.

But as with PurpleLemur, I'm finding it hard to be proud with the Tories in power, they're fucking things up big time in my opinion.

I do not hail from the British isle, but I do feel a sense of national pride in my country, America. Even if some of our leaders have done some stupid things, I feel confidence in my nation.

And although I cannot partake persay in the poll, I do support my own flag, as I am sure many of the people under the Union Jack do as well.

I'm proud to be Cymraeg (Welsh) and truly a mainland Brit but the Union Jack has jack all to do with me, so nope I'm not damn proud of the Union Jack...I like the Red Dragon though.

OT. No, I'm not proud to be british I'm lucky that's all, I didn't yell at my mum from the womb to point her uterus in Britain's direction. That said I'm quite proud of my ancestors for resisting as long as they did, the beat the Italians, the Danes, the Germans and the French...then an amalgamation of these different cultures that had gathered over the years invaded and built fortresses everywhere...but we're past that now so I'll be nice to my English neighbors just stop complaining about us getting free drugs on the NHS; it's the least we deserve after the way you treated us.

From what I've seen, most English people are very proud to be English. Scots and Welshmen less so.

Also, this English pride often leads to xenophobia. Which can be rather annoying.

In all honesty I'd say I'm a proud Welshman but very annoyed at Englishmen who chant racist slogans at the lovely Indian people down the road...mostly it's because they yell britain for the British...but if that were the case the Scots would have to go back to Ireland and you guys would have to go back to mainland Europe leaving just us and the cornish.

I think I'm with you but I have no idea what on...I think it's that xenophobic Englishmen should be deported to mainland Europe, and you know what I can't think of a punishment they'd hate more.

Like many have said before me, I'm not British, I'm Scottish. Of that, I am quite proud.

I have no problem with pride in one's country. I'm very proud of my own country, Australia, not because of what we've done (we're young, so... not a lot), but because of what we are and how hard we try as a country to be generous, warm and just. We don't always succeed but we always try, and that's worth celebrating.

However, I can't stand when people are obnoxious with their patriotism, or believe that they are superior to others simply by virtue of where they were born. Be quiet and dignified with your pride, or expect people to lash back.

I would say I'm somewhat proud of my cloudy, sunless side, as although it meant that I inherited my Mother's pale, English skin, Britain makes up for it for inventing kippers, Welsh rarebit and Branston pickle.

Depends on the attitude and where he's from. People in paris dont care for the US, but people outside are thankful for what they did in WW2. we here know and the french know it.

Depends on whose attitude? His or the people he meets? Obviously both, but don't go trying to pretend that everyone in America is going to be super nice to the French. I'm betting he'd stand just as much chance as getting shit in the US as you did in the UK wether he was as nice a guy as you or not. I'm certain people in the US are capable of being just as coarse to their current international whipping boy. I suppose my point is that since you have decided to dislike everyone in Britain until proven otherwise, you might want to consider that there are people that feel the same way about you and your country for reasons that feel very legitimate to them but might make you think "hang on, that's only because you've met the wrong people, judging an entire nation based on that is a bit dickish and rather insulting". Which is basically what the majority of people in this thread have been thinking about you.
