If I had to choose one of the two, I'd go with the PS3 controller simply because my hands are fairly small and the 360 one just feels a bit.....chunky
How does it feel chunky? As I commented to someone else, I have small hands for a guy, and the 360 doesn't feel big, bulky, or chunky in the slightest. If it was any smaller, my fingers would collide.
It just feels like my fingers are being stretched...whereas the PS3 controller is nice and snug
How small are your hands? Mine are roughly 6 inches long by 2 and a half or so wide. They are extremely small compared to any guy I know.

Now thinking about it, I think this is all going to come down to finger/thumb length. I wish I had a ruler. I'm using an 8 by 11 paper and guessing, but I think my guesses are good.

I've gotten all scientific all up in this, probably going to come down to biological structure.

Okay people, no more arguments, I've found the magic answer, it comes down to the genetic make up of our hands.

360,

triggers feel more responsive, fits the shape of my hand better, analog sticks are easy to click while keeping them at the same angle, and it's way more important for the left analog stick to be in the most natural position than the d-pad (seriously, in most games there's never a reason to even touch the d-pad).

Also, the shoulder and face buttons in Playstation controllers don't really feel like they do anything. 360 controller buttons have a defined click to them for better tactile feedback.
^ that

seriously...

you just read my mind. or

you know. we have simular opinions.

i'll go with the first one

Recently I was having a futile argument between these two. So which do you prefer? As a disclaimer, NO FLAMING. Seriously though, why do you like the configuration of your choice controller better than the other?

I like the PS3 controller more than the 360's because it is more polished, has smoother triggers, and easier to reach buttons. The feel is just natural. The sticks being parallel to each other make it easier to reach the d-pad because your hand naturally flows to it when needed, you don't have to inconvenience yourself to reach it.

Now you?
I feel that the xbox's controller is too big and clumbsy, I prefer the PS3's with it fitting comfy withing my hands, no effort to make thought turn to action on screen.

I'll take a Gamecube controller thanks
I am with the above. The Gamecube controller, for me, is the controller. I always prefered the 360 controller to the ps3 one because it had more similarities to the Gamecube controller.
I've never been able to get used to a playstation controller. For me, it's just so... unnatural.

It was an exaggeration really, but I prefer to use the D-Pad for fighters and it will hurt my thumb after extended use. I can't reliably pull off multi-hit/super/ultra combos with the analog stick. I've never been good at true arcade fighters as a result.
I never bothered with supers and ultras. Even when trying to use the D-pad, neither my friend or I could do them. Besides, I can easily beat the highest difficulty without them. Pissed my friend off all to hell though, he could barely beat it on medium.
Supers and Ultras are so fun though, and absolutely necessary for playing against people. As far as arcade mode, I've beaten Gouken on hardest difficulty using only one type of attack. Just one. Over and over. Its stupid easy to beat arcade using most any strategy after some practice. I'm also a Dan Hibiki specialist, so Supers and Ultras are the real damage dealers for me. Super in particular since its actually stronger than his Ultra.

I don't know, it's just..... CLUNKY. I don't like it. It's thick, heavy and very un-hand-shaped. Not fun, completely annoying and looks arrogant.
Yeah. The controller looks like a jerk. I don't know how.
It is just a matter of opinion and biology.

I'm done with this because I've just decided that I have magical hands, mainly, because of what you said about it being heavy. I'm picking one up right now; I don't feel any weight or a feeling of gravity pulling it down with resistance against my hands.

Just forget about me, I has magic hands.

I much prefer the 360 controller. It fits my hands perfectly, I like the way the buttons feel, and it looks nice. I don't have too many problems with the ps3 controller, but my main complaints are as follows:

It's hard to hold comfortably,
I've never been able to fully master the whole "both analog sticks on the bottom" thing,
The triggers feel like marshmallows, and aren't precise at all.

360 for 3 main reasons:
1) PS3's shoulder buttons are way too high for me to comfortably reach them. I really have to strain to reach them. I can hit the 360's shoulder buttons easily & quickly.
2) Triggers are actually triggers. The curved triggers on the PS3 are curved the wrong way. They don't feel right at all.
3) I've had too many rechargeable batteries go bad on me to want my battery be a permanent part of my controller; i.e. I don't want to have to have hacker skills to replace the battery. That seems like a design flaw to me. My 360's battery pack lasted 4yrs before its life shortened to annoying levels. I just went to the store & bought another. I don't even know how hard it would be to find a replacement PS3 controller battery since it's not designed to be user replaceable.

My 1st 360 had a terrible d-pad. I eventually sold it & bought an Elite. No problems at all with that d-pad.

What 360 battery requires the console to charge it? (By "use a giant brick," I assume you're talking about using the entire 360 & its power brick.) I often use my PC's USB port to charge my 360's battery via the Play 'N Charge kit. Other chargers just plug into the wall outlet.

I guess I'm not one for flashy-ness. The main characters I use and cycle through are Ryu, E. Honda, Chung-Li, and Blanka. Ya, on hardest mode, the computer is a sucker for Blanka's electrocute.

Overall i like the 360 more, has some more weight behind it and something to really hold and I like the trigger design better. However PS does have the better joystick location like you said

Well, for me the PS2 controller wins hands-down(I know it's not on the poll). But, out of those two, I'm more used to the 360 controller. Haven't really played on the PS3 that often; maybe only 2-3 times since it came out.

Out of the 2 options given here, I would side with the X-box 360, but give me a gamecube controller anyday. Comfortable and easy to use. Gotta love them.

Being a youngin my first console was a PS1 with a dualshock analog controller and I remember it being marvellous. Everything worked, the shoulder buttons were neither sticky nor soft, the D-pad was across from the face buttons and everything was nice and neat. Jump forward 10 years and we are in the current generation. I own a 360 but have played copious amounts on a PS3. The left stick and d-pad swapped makes more sense since most games use the stick instead for movement and the right stick feels better staggered as it physically reminds you to treat the stick differently which is advantageous in most games while not being hindering in others. The triggers make me happy because while I play some shooters, I still very much enjoy other genres and they work universally across every game type. The colour coded face buttons make teaching my family to play alot easier aswell as the obvious advantages of quicktime events. The d-pad admittedly isn't right, but it's very rarely used for anything other than hotkeys which it is very well suited for by being 8 directional rather than 4, and just the overall size and weight of the controller makes the experience of gaming more immersive. The PS3 controllers, while only having a couple of flaws, has absolutely no advantages. The controller hasn't changed in 14 years which means that the controller would still fit in my hand if I were 8, and the L2/R2 buttons have been overcompensated from the stickyness of PS2 and are to soft.

"It is not the species that in strongest or fastest that survives, but that which is most adaptable to change" -Charles Darwin

The PS3 controller design is outdated and flawed, the xbox controller was an adaptation of that and the 360 controller an evolution of that. 360 controller is far superior.

i prefer the playstation controllers, the xbox ones just don't feel right in my hands, the buttons, the placement of the thumbsticks, the triggers, the weight, everything.

I personally prefer the Dualshock, but that's cause I hold my controllers funny. My thumbs jonts bend back really far, so instead of pushing buttons with the tip of my thumb I do it with the first joint, which for whatever reason makes having the left joystick on the bottom more comfortable. I know that I'm a weird case though, and most people I know who play games that actually use the joysticks prefer the 360 controller.

While 360 is my preferred system, the PS3 controller is a winner by a longshot, in my opinion.

While it's charger doesn't go on while the system is off, and lacks a rumble feature, (I got a PS3 right when it was released) it's just so light-weight and the buttons press down so slightly and slenderly that the slightest twitch makes it go off. I love it.

Call of Duty 4 was magical on this controller.
