For those who don't know what PK is, it's essentially being able to do freakin' cool shit with your mind.

Anything from moving small objects, to spontaneously lighting said small objects on fire.

Millions claim to have this ability, and there are no shortages of videos demonstrating these seemingly natural abilities on the internet and most people claim that anyone can do this sort of thing. Sounds fun.

So I wanted to know, what do you think of this? I personally want to believe that it exists and we all can do it, but so far nothing has come around to make me believe.

I wish it was real, but I kind of doubt it.

Because if it was, you think people would do more than make videos of it. Trip others in races, or something.

I have hanging on the wall of my appartment a reproduction of the poster from Agent Mulder's office wall in The X-Files. The picture is of a flying saucer, the words beneath it read "I Want To Believe." I think that is where I find myself in regards to most supernatural phenomena, I want to believe, but that doesn't mean that I do.

I say, I have yet to be presented with evidence, so, this.

When just one of them proves these abilities under strictly regulated laboratory conditions, then I'll start believing in it.

Em just a quick gripe psychokinesis movements of objects, bending of metals, and determining the outcome of events while pyrokinesis is the act of setting things on fire with your mind. If it were possible however, it would be cool.

If it was real they would have been able to test it a long time ago. But since this hasn't happened yet it's almost completly certain that it isn't real.

I was under the impression that movement of objects was telekinesis, setting shit on fire was pyrokinesis determining outcome of events something related but not related at the same time, and that bending of metals was grouped with telekinesis.

And then all of those abilities and then some fell under the generalized psychokinesis.

Did that make sense to you? It sure didn't to me. I need to work on my explanation skills :p

I think I get what you're trying to say it is just a little gripe for me. As if I was to be a kinetic of some sort I would like to be a Pyrokintec as I have always liked the idea of being able to control either fire or water.

Yeah, it took me FOREVER to actually find an exact reproduction of the poster. There's a lot of fakes that have some similarities floating around the internet, but I had to go to a website that custom prints posters to find the actual poster. I can't imagine why the X-Files merchandising crew never thought to themselves "oh, I know what fans might love, Mulder's poster!" It seems like the most obvious thing that a fan would want. But, I guess it never occured to them. Oh well.

Switching to Classical Greek for a moment here:

Tele = Far
Kinesis (and derivations thereof) = Movement
Pyro = Fire

Therefore, Pyrokinesis would just be fire-movement, not mind-flaming... or something like that.

The ability has never been replicated in controlled experimental settings. Hence I find it far more likely that it's a neat magic trick and little more.

It's be interesting if it happened, but no scientific data supporting it, so I don't believe in it.

Interestingly enough, there was an experiment (On the Discovery channel, if I recall correctly) where some scientists were attempting to see if they could exploit the collapsing of the waveform with light on a laser that couldn't be seen by a person by having them visualize where they thought the laser "should" be. I only had it on for a second, and was playing Dragon Age at the time, but I think I heard something about statistically significant results.
