Just a random question, as the title says, and a fairly straight-forward one at that: would you prefer to be really cold or really hot? The frigid chill of winter vs the sweltering heat of summer. Assume that the scenario for this question is taking place outside, so no huddling near a furnace for heat or hanging out in the air conditioning for keeping cool.

I think my preference leans towards cold, because at least with the cold you can take preventative measures against it. You can wear layers of clothes, bundle up, and do things to help keep yourself warm. When you're hot there really isn't much that you can do. Even if you were to strip down completely naked, you'd then just be hot, sweaty, and naked.

I'd rather be very cold, it's way easier to deal with being cold than very hot, as you just shove on a load of clothes & curl up in a duvet. The UK heatwave this summer was unbearable...

Cold. Anyone who prefers really hot has probably never endured really hot. Way easier to heat up than cool down.

Cold. No question. I've had heat exhaustion before and my cold tolerance is much better than my heat tolerance.

Well, where I live we get summers in the +40s and winters have gone as cold as -56 (Celcius) for me.

I would rather be cold. You can dress for it, guard against it. The heat you can't do much for.

Cold, you can always put on more clothes. There are only so many clothes you can take off until you either run out or get thrown in prison.

Plus, the real killer in cold weather is the wind, not the actual temperature. I can go down to -20F (-28C) in a light jacket and be comfortable for awhile if there was no wind.

I rather bear the heat anytime! I'm from the cold part of the UK so I'm pretty much fed up being cold most of the time especially this season!

Cold! You can just throw more and more layers on until you reach the optimal level of sweater snuggliness. <3

Anyone who thinks they would prefer to be really hot has never truly experienced really hot. I'll make sure to laugh at them as I walk by in my leather jacket and layers while they crawl across the ground sweating after striping bare naked!

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!

Not to mention, the ladies are going to need to keep warm, and with all my layers I'm a prime target for some cuddling...

Cold, no contest there at all.

I have a body type that retains heat quite easily, and it is much easier to prepare for cold weather than hot.

On top of that, It takes a bigger shift to get to potentially deadly conditions heading in the "colder" direction. If we take room temperature, 21 C, as the default, and shift down by 20 degrees, toss on a jacket and you might be less comfortable than usual, but are in no particular danger. Shift 20 degrees in the other direction however, and people can easily start getting heat stroke while just sitting around. Hell, I was nearly hospitalized once after working in just 35 C, in spite of taking precautions, although part of that ties back into the body type I mentioned before.

Cold by far, for one big reason among others. It's so much easier to sleep in cold weather then when it's hot. A warm night feels gross every way you look at it. You can drink a lot of water, throw water on your face, but it never works for very long. If it's cold, you can throw on a blanket or two, and that's it, sleep will come momentarily.

I always preffer being cold. I'd rather go walking in the rain than go to beach on a sunny day.

It's partly due to the fact that I don't cope well with the sun - probably because of lifestyle (never leaves house, ingests body weight in cheetos daily) and genetics.

Scotland also has an... odd weather pattern. People usually think of it as really cold here. That's a lie; in summers, it can get atrociosly hot, and in winter, it can get very, very cold. It's very odd; this happens a lot in autumn, where the weather is constantly shifting between America-esque and Eastern Europe-like. A lot of people peg it down to global warming, but really, Scotland's always been like this.

Cold, though I like it a lot more when its due to a thermostat/air conditioning. Its just more comfortable, less bugs to deal with when outdoors and like others have said, "you can always just put on more layers".

I happen to live in a state where the sun never goes away and has to make everything as miserable as possible because it's a dick.

So, I would go with cold.

Why?

Hot cocoa, dammit! It's pretty much the only time you can drink it. Besides that, I like the cold and it makes for perfect sleeping weather. Being all snugged in the bed, it's just awesome. :D

Cold - because cozy socks and cuddle.
Not heat - because headaches, heat rash, icky sweat in icky places and hyperthermia.

I'm a prairie boy through and through. GIVE ME THE -40 degrees Celsius WINTER!

I hate excessive heat.
