I dislike most rap. "Retards attempting poetry" if you ask me. There are a few bands I can listen to, Fort Minor, Linkin Park, a couple of the old school ones like Tupac. Most of it sucks though.

I don't hate all rap, I just haven't found any rappers that I actually like yet.

[sub]Not that I'm looking for good rap music... I'm happy with my current music library. Maybe next time I feel the need for some new music.[/sub]

I dislike the genre I find it very boring to listen to.

There was something I saw once that gave me a chuckle: RAP Retards Attempting Poetry.
Everyone's seen that ten thousand times. It's not funny.

Do you read Parade magazine?

Now the title of this form is what I usually see on the Escapist. I have been here for less than a year. ( I think ) Now I on the other hand like a lot of rap. Not the shit like Little Wain and or Drake. I personally hate those rappers with a passion because its where people get the generalization that rap is only about gangsters, hoes, cash, and sex. Yet a lot of rap is about deeper pain like Rehab, Fort minor and some of Eminem. Now I am not trying to say O RAPZZ IZ DE SHIZZ. No I actually like a lot of metal. Yet this is what I am wondering Do you think all rap is about gangsters and hoes and ect or just because you don't like the Genera, or is it something else?

(Also please don't think this is a mad rant or anything I am just curious)
I think if someone has a wider taste in music, their taste is better than die-hard fans of one genre.

There's a lot of good rap/old hip hop but nowadays its hard to find. People think its ain't nothing but hoes and tricks so they hate it.

Most people on this forum hate rap because they think they're too good and sophisticated to listen to something as 'shallow' as rap. Not trying to sound like a bitter fan but that's how it looks to me. Most of the complaints against rap is "its shallow and its just about money/hos/nothing at all", which proves that they barely skimmed the surface of rap.

The surface is shitty, but the core inside is worth digging through.

I personally like rap and I have to say not all of rap is about gangster and hoes and "OH SHIT! LOOK WHAT I JUST BOUGHT!!!", no, all mainstream rap is about that. I like a small amount of it, but not all of it. I mostly like Underground rap, which is like advanced old school.

I really like some Eminem stuff - Not Afraid is really good - but the generic bitchez n hoez stuff is just dull.

Still, the vast majority on here like heavy metal, so what right do they have to comment on the quality of music?

A looped drum machine / premade synth beat and several men bouncing around waving their arms and talking in time to the aforementioned machine doesn't appeal to me.

Music should involve at least one musician.

I'm a big rap fan, and i don't really see the problem of pointless lyrics about hoes and bling. I mean sure, Rap with a message tend to be better and having a message in a rap can make it a whole lot better.

But i don't really see why shallow/pointless lyrics are such an issue in Rap. I would say that most lyrics in most genres are relatively pointless. Rock lyrics for example are often similar to Rap, rinking, girls, and all around hedonism. Despite this no one seems to complain about Rock having shallow lyrics.

I for my part are not ashamed to say i like shallow rap like 90,s Gangsta Rap such as NWA or Snoop Dogg (back when he was good AKA Doggystyle). As long as the lyrics are imaginative, interesting and have a nice flow to them coupled with a well-produced beat/background music i'm likely to get interested. Can't stand the newer auto-tuned semi-rap though.

But i don't complain about people not liking Rap. It's something that you have to learn to listen to, just like heavier forms of metal.

Still i can't figure out why people hate shallow lyrics. Who seriously hates women, drinking, ego-tripping, and giving people the finger? (If you do it yourself atleast)

Today it's just about all about ganstas and hoes. Most people here will acknowledge that rap was at least defendable... what, 10 years ago?

This place is rather Metal-Crazy though, so you'll find more people that love Metal than you will that like Rap.
Agreed, I don't like any of the rap that's come out in the past 10 years. But I do enjoy listening to Killah Priest and a few other select artists. But on the whole I'm not a fan of rap.

And yes, this place is overrun by metal heads.

I know it's not all about gangsters and things because there's styles like Linkin Park but I still don't like it.

Our music is not 'gangsta rap'. There's no such thing. The label was created by the media to limit what we can say. We just deliver the truth in a brutal fashion. The young black male is a target. Snoop (Doggy Dogg) has gone four times platinum and makes more money than the president. They don't like that, so you hear 'ban this, ban that'. We attack people's emotions. It's a real live show that brings out the inside in people. Like I said, intense.
Liquid Swords is "gangsta rap" like The Wire is "gangsta TV drama." You have to look for the good music.

Don't mind the sound of rap, it's just that most of it glorifies illegal activitys. Mainly drugs, murder and prostitution. Other rap that doesn't I kinda like.
I mean, who doesn't like Weird Al's raps.

Any rap made in the last 20 years is suspect. Give me old school any day of the week. Kool Moe Dee, Busy Bee, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Boogie Down Productions...

Jeezus I'm old. :D

Done properly it's wonderful. The problem is, to find it done properly you have too look down deep into the shadows, stupid over commercialisation.

<spoiler=Plus, rap produced the best double entendre song ever><youtube=EKaAWoiCn8I>

In case you're wondering, it's about The Roots going behind their first love's (rap) back to make a song with a rock musician, specifically Cody chestnutt, the guy singing. Although you can so take it another way...

I appologise if anyone takes offence to this next point but I can only think of one mainstream white rapper, just one.
Just one? I'm a rap fan, so although I know I'm going to have an advantage over you on this, but before thinking about it I'd be prepared to say I can think of... 10? Hmm...

Damn, you are so right! Not only are all of those songs by black gangbangers, they're all about guns, bitches and bling!

Oh wait... Sorry, I forgot that was just a stereotype. Still, we've all got to hate something unreasonably, right?

You. You, I like. Have you heard any of Pegz or Funkoars? I think Australian rap in general is doing fantastically for overturning the Guns Bitchez + Bling stereotype. Keep spreading the good word!

can't say i am a fan. rap generally throws all rules of musical theory and harmony out the window, then pops a cap in its ass, then runs it over with its convertible or sports car. what you are left with then is some guy talking really fast while some random noise plays on a 10 second loop for a few minutes.
