Somewhere in between. While a game having a lot of replay value is most certainly a bonus, I'll buy a fantastic game with little replay value over an average game with lots of replay value. I don't see the point in buying a game that you could play for 70+ hours if you're not going to like the game.

I say yes mainly i like a game thats fun to play repeatedly even if i know the story Mass Effect is the best example of a realy replayable game because how the story can be different each time.

If its a choice between two games of similar quality and price but one has much greater replay value- I'd get that one. Its giving you more gameplay hours of about the same fun for the same price. Better deal.

However, if the game with less replay value was better, I'd get it.

Games that give you morale or multiple choice options like Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and Oblivion have a high replay value since you want to see how the game differs if you are a saint, neutral or a complete d-bag. Fallout 3 is a prime example of this. I have more than 200+ hours on this game, and I still haven't seen or done everything yet.

I can almost never replay a game, no matter what the replay value. Trouble is that I remember too much of it even years down the road. I have the same problem with movies, tv shows and books.

I tend to lean towards games that I can replay again and again.

But when one is worth the money, and can't be replayed, then I just might buy it.

why would I play something over and over again without any extra reward for it? (old school games don't count) secret endings, artwork, online play, hidden objects and the like are usually what I base my purchases off of.

either that or an RPG with 80+ hours of gameplay

How do I know a game has replay value before I've played it?

To be honest, I can replay almost anything anyway, so no.

Replay value = fun to me.

If a game's not fun I don't care how many alternate endings and unlockable it may have, still not buying it. Games like Lylat Wars and Halo CE have very limited scope for alternate routes, but are a lot of fun, so I keep playing them.

I don't choose a game based on it, because how can you know if it has replay value until you played it? For example, Halo 2 was ok the first time through, but has no replay value at all.

I buy a game, like it, and replay value makes it even better, like chocolate frosting on a Dairy Queen Blizzard. Take The World Ends With You, for example. That is how replay should be done. New items, a higher difficulty for obtaining better weapons, and secret challenges that explain the story.

If only more JRPGs knew how to do that.

Replay value constitutes a part of a great game. In most situations concerning a good game I might get, it seals the deal.

Games are expensive. I want the most bang for my buck. I try to get games with either multiple endings or content that you have to go multiple times through.
