Poll: Repopulating the Earth

Whenever a scenario of there being one last man and women on earth, the subject of repopulating the Earth is always brought up.

But I've always wondered, would anyone actually go through with this? When thought about on a level deeper than just "Keeping the Human Race alive." You have to realize that either you would have to have sex with your own children, or give your children more people to have sex with.

My question is, would you look past your own ideals for the sake of the Human Race, or would you not be able to go through the necessary actions, and just let yourself be the last human beings ever?

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to be inappropriate, this is a question I've always wondered, and a question that the last man and women on Earth would have to take seriously.

If it were down to two people the human race is pretty fucked anyway. The kids would be so messed up genetically they would likely all die.

If we listen to the religious nut-jobs that's how we were formed to begin with. Most ideals in societies, both ancient and modern, are founded on religious beliefs. And even if you aren't comfortable with the idea, you could go to a sperm bank... I really should shut up right about now.

With only two humans left inbreeding would occur. The remaining humans would be fucked up with in about 2-3 generations. All kinds of deformities occur. I maintain the idea that generating a population with only two humans is impossible with out serious repercussions. The human race would die out with in a few decades.

First the earth would have to be depopulated. And the chances of a female and a male surviving whatever killed off the rest of the humans are completely implausible and so unlikely, that elder gods existing are more likely than that.

Other than that, no. Not unless she was a certain person.

Hey you know what would suck, ok you and your daughter are the only ones left alive, and after a year of trying to have a baby, you realize she is infertile, or you had a Vasectomy the day before the bombs dropped.

A lot of religious people believe that Adam and Eve were just the first humans created by god, not the only ones.

This is a very plausible number. More would be better, but I do believe this is sufficient to provide a good pool for cross breeding to occur with out the inevitable negative mutations.

That's basically my main problem, having malformed children, and the fact that you have to have sex with your own relatives...

If she's hot I'd probably just have sex with her, but no babies.

Insufficient genetic stock, your offspring would be infertile in a matter of generations - so really you're only prolonging the inevitable, so if you find the idea revolting then don't bother.

Obviously if the partner was attractive you could use the line to get your end away - and conversely if she was a moose you can explain why it's futile.
