They wouldn't die. There are plenty of Christian foundamentalists who believe in Adam and Eve literally.

Assuming after a couple of generations, there's nothing but girls who look like you (with long hair) and the woman you started off with is well past her prime... what would you do?
That's the kind of question only someone not blessed with my face would think of.

1. Have babies.
2. When they grow up, send them away to find other people.
3. Repeat until you die.

They might not find other people, but at least there wasn't any nasty stuff.

I suppose I would try, but as was said the kids may be sort of fucked up genetically. I don't know much about genetics though, what would that do? Sure they would be sort of fucked up, but I believe species have had to mate with close relatives in the past, and they atleast survived.

So they may not exactly be "human" as they were before whatever killed most of the species but I would try in the hopes of the family tree branching out enough to allow mating without the whole species becoming retarded or something.

All this deformities and stuff is the very reason why there were very few people in the world until very recently. Societies would inspect the children for deformities and to see if they were strong enough to survive in the harsh reality that we as human have effectively destroyed in the western world. If the child was deformed or sickly it was disposed of because it would just have been a burden.

And as for the genetics: humans are actually much less susceptible to these deformities and weaknesses than other animals are. After about 5 generations, (a relatively short time) the differences in genes would be varied enough to prevent most birth deformities again.

All of this repopulation is actually quite plausible and could indeed work if such a situation ever arose.

Nope!
Its a sheer matter of the amount of energy available to man.
In simpler times, the human race was limited, energy wise, to what came from the sun. This could support a couple billion people.
Oil, coal, 'n the likes are essentially solar energy of ancient times that are being dug up to be used now. This allows us to surpass the limit of a few billion at most to at least where we are now.

So, when we're outta oil...

But anyway, if I were the last woman on Earth, I'd prolly just off myself rather than face the miseries of having to live a miserable, primitive existence.

Inbreeding and questions of morality aside, isn't it mathematically darn near impossible for two people to repopulate the whole world? The lowest number I have read that has a remote chance of success in regards to all the outside factors was 50.

First, that isn't the subject on debate, second, Adam's sons got wives from out of thin air so incest would never have been an issue with that story. And finally, the inbreeding caused by the described scenario for this thread would likely lead to the extinction of the species anyway.

I am not sure It would be a hard desision and also probably one to be made by both of us

That's nice. Also millions of kids believe in Santa Claus, literally.

None of this is true if only two people were left. Have you any idea what kind of deformities plagued the royal families in Egypt for example? It was gross. Look it up some time. We are just as susceptible to these deformities and weaknesses as other animals. Where did you read that poppy cock? Your first point is also besides the point. If only two people, male/female, were left inbreed in inevitable. Also, with out proper medical help there is a very good chance she might die in pregnancy or labor whilst giving birth. Both of these happened quite often up till about 150 years ago. The children also have a very low chance of living past say around 5 years of age since before modern medical science they died quite often around the same time period.

If we listen to the religious nut-jobs that's how we were formed to begin with. Most ideals in societies, both ancient and modern, are founded on religious beliefs. And even if you aren't comfortable with the idea, you could go to a sperm bank... I really should shut up right about now.
A lot of religious people believe that Adam and Eve were just the first humans created by god, not the only ones.
That's what I mean. We're all supposedly the incestuous great-great-great-great-(over 9000!)grandchildren of Adam and Eve.

The world is only 9000 years old and humans were riding T-Rex's too, right? Fossils are fake and science is a fools game. All of Creation was built in a week too. POOF!

To extend that question: does she have any hot sisters or friends?
Sadly, we already determined that they'd all be dead.

Which does beg the question, how did everybody else suddenly die? And what's the guarantee that the other living human is within finding and procreating distance?

I suppose if I did suddenly find myself the last living thing surrounded by piles and piles of corpses, I'd seek out other survivors by way of teaching myself as much as I can about communications and electricity to generate signals as I can, then start setting up radio beacons in major cities. I'd also need to teach myself how to fuel and fly planes to extend my range, hoping that other survivors would be doing the same thing. My search would probably go up through overpopulated areas of Asia, then europe before I tackle north/south america, working the odds as much as I could, but even then I doubt I'd see this mysterious other human in my lifetime.

Yep. That's what happens when a compilation of fairy tales is strung together in a leather bound book and peddled to the naive. (*anxiously awaits to be damned by Jesus.*)

On Topic: Like I said, you can avoid at least some gene issues with sperm banks.
