I played on and off over the years. I still have friends that play regularly.

I always had fun playing. The quests were usually more than "Go to point x, bring back Z number of animal bits" Some of the dialog was clever, and there were constant updates.

Plus with it's most recent update it took another step at being a "real" mmo with four man dungeon raids. Mind You it could have been done better, but it's a start.

I love it, and still play it. The graphics are fine, good for lower end computers, and the quests are the best of any MMOG.
I do agree the grinding is pretty bad...

I played it for a while and I didn't think it was horrible. I guess I just became bored and stopped playing, or I just forgot about it.

I enjoyed RuneScape, but found it was definitely more fun to play with friends, when I tried to get back into it after most of my friends had stopped playing it was nothing like as fun. But I still love the rich history of the world they've created and all the detail that goes into it. I think it's a very well created game, and the quests are brilliant, but I do agree it's very very grindy..

Tried it in ...what was it ? 2002/2004? around that. Was nice for a boring sunday. But it just was too..crude..had to force me to play it. No real action, no thrill, no experience of gaming...

I said this at the last thread, I'll say it again, it's actually quite fun, unless you started playing after the wildy was removed or during the removal of the wildy, it wasn't a smooth transaction. My mates tried to get me back into it last year, played for a bit, then stopped.

I played it and I had fun with a friend. the quests are more diverse than the standard 'go there and kill stuff' but that's pretty much the only thing that's good about it. graphics are ugly, too much grinding, annoying skill systems, facist anti-scam/cheat/bot mechanics that don't stop anyone from scamming/cheating/using bots (seriously, it seems like the jagex CEO is channeling emperor palpatine...), takes ages to get anywhere, not a single character stood out as memorable or interesting (including my own), severely broken economy (party hats anyone?) and did I mention it's ugly? one thing I can say in it's favor is that it's not trying to be like world of warcraft. but that argument cuts two ways because you could use the same argument to point out how it could be better. wow is good, rs isn't. but the worst part, which i saved for desert, is the players. now maybe it's only on the particular server I was on, but the experience was something like this: I played for quite a while when i was in high school (1.5-2 years) with a friend and we had fun. for reasons I don't quite remember (but that probably have a lot to do with what I mentioned above) we quit and changed to guildwars, after getting bored with that we skipped to WoW. after about 1.5 years of wow I wondered: gee, I wonder what runescape is like these days. let's check. so I made a new character and in the five minutes I spent standing around in the starting area, I saw more profanities than in two hours raiding full of ninjas and tanks with twohanders. I'm not even exaggerating much, ALL these little kids were doing was standing around trying to insult each other so badly one of the others would finally snap and kill himself. needless to say, I haven't looked at it since.

A lot of people quit at the same time, like 50%(not confirmed) of the Runescape population when Wild was stripped from us freebies.
It was about 0.5%.

You can still kill people.
Yeah, these days you can, I'm talking about the incident from many years back when it was taken away because so many kids were whining to Jagex for their toon being killed and losing all their equipment. (A rumor? Possibly)

It's ok but not that good, there's nothing interesting to do if you're not a member and considering how "fun"(sarcasm) it is I can imagine memberships not being worth the money either.

Sorry, that's just a rumour. It was removed because gold farming and real-world trading was becoming an immense problem (trust me- it was bad. Getting your own resources was getting impossible). Instead of opening up a 'shop' for real life currency, Jagex decided to destroy a part of the game which was quite popular. They thought that a shop would damage RS's integrity as a game, and many others agreed. Yeah, it was unfortunate, but most people got over it. Only the whiners still, uh, whine.

Oh, and the confirmed figures are around 60,00 players who quit, out of millions of players.

On topic: Personally, I rather enjoy Runescape. By no means it should be the only game on your 'diet,' because it can get rather boring at times, but its skill system makes it more varied than the average MMO.

You can't rip off a game that came after you. More accurately, it's an Ultima Online ripoff.
You can and Jagex did. I enjoy playing RS even though it feels like I have to shut off my brain whilst training even combat, but before WoW became the Behemoth that it is, Runescape was a much simpler friendlier game. But then they tried turning RS into WoW, adding a lot of features from WoW into it, which ultimately angered a lot of it's fans, I quit for years after they messed up a lot of things in that game. I prefered Runescape not World of Runescape...

Eh, I didn't mind it. After all, I learned how to type fast thanks to that game.

Plus killing noobs in the wilderness was always entertaining. I remember me and my friends would set up ambushes, and lure people it...

Until that one time we killed a guy, and he came back on his high level account with a few of his high level friends..

But still, have good memories from that game. Pretty much crap now.

And whoever thought it would be a good idea to take out the PvP aspect of the wilderness should be beaten.
