I played it and I had fun with a friend. the quests are more diverse than the standard 'go there and kill stuff' but that's pretty much the only thing that's good about it. graphics are ugly, too much grinding, annoying skill systems, facist anti-scam/cheat/bot mechanics that don't stop anyone from scamming/cheating/using bots (seriously, it seems like the jagex CEO is channeling emperor palpatine...), takes ages to get anywhere, not a single character stood out as memorable or interesting (including my own), severely broken economy (party hats anyone?) and did I mention it's ugly? one thing I can say in it's favor is that it's not trying to be like world of warcraft. but that argument cuts two ways because you could use the same argument to point out how it could be better. wow is good, rs isn't. but the worst part, which i saved for desert, is the players. now maybe it's only on the particular server I was on, but the experience was something like this: I played for quite a while when i was in high school (1.5-2 years) with a friend and we had fun. for reasons I don't quite remember (but that probably have a lot to do with what I mentioned above) we quit and changed to guildwars, after getting bored with that we skipped to WoW. after about 1.5 years of wow I wondered: gee, I wonder what runescape is like these days. let's check. so I made a new character and in the five minutes I spent standing around in the starting area, I saw more profanities than in two hours raiding full of ninjas and tanks with twohanders. I'm not even exaggerating much, ALL these little kids were doing was standing around trying to insult each other so badly one of the others would finally snap and kill himself. needless to say, I haven't looked at it since.
