So here is my story, After highschool a have wanted to move to New Hampshire and join the National Guard or the Navy Reserves. The reason I want to move to New Hampshire is to Join The Free state Project
once out of the Boot camp I can go to a commutiy college and then regular one after that I'm hoping to see if I can require a career in Politices. Then suddenly my Grandpa is saying mabey I should just drop out of school and join the reserves now (My Grandpa is not some uneducated hick though he was in the navy 10 years and the Reserves 10 years after which went to college and taught Drafting at the same highschool i'm going to now) I was thinking about it he Knows how bad I hate school and its not about learing I love learning its just I want to learn the things I want to learn. I'm stuck in a low grade algrebra math class because it is a state requirment. I'm horribable at math (and spelling which I plan to work on) and don't really see the point of learning Algrebra if I'm going to get into Politices then I prolly won't be needing it. I'm not sure what to do I can't stand school anymore it seems the syestem is working against me and I just want to move on with my life, But I don't know if I should start now or tough it out for a little while longer.

I'm 17 and I'm turing 18 in July I'm a junior in highschool and the year does'nt in till somewhere around June. If I am going to do it I was thinking of just waiting till the end of my junior year and then doing it. I if do it then I'm going to have to get my G.E.D and that isn't worth anything, but I figure I can make it up when I get to a community college but I don't know.

Side note- If I can't cut it as a Politician then I'm planning in just staying in Navy. Mabey after that become a landlord.

EDIT: I guess I'm going to stay just like Pararaptor said

Alright, just remember this.
Few people, even if you were among them, would vote for a politician who didn't finish high school.
Sorry again for my spelling be the way I was just sorta writting this in a rush and didn't do any spell checks.

FINISH.
HIGHSCHOOL.
*****.

End of story. There is no reason why you can't just wait. A year isn't really that long. And you might figure something out before then.

Oh, and i'm sorry you have trouble with math. I was a number-ninja back in the day, but don't ask for help. I can't explain worth shit.

If you your grandpa is as smart as you say he is then you should seriously consider what he sais. Plus you'll still be learning stuff so when you go back you'll have other skills that could help you out.

Finish high school, at the very least just to prove that you have the discipline to see it to the end.

Suck it up, seriously. Not even bothering to graduate high school does not look good on a resume. And if you got involved in politics, you can bet our opponents will go hunting into your educational background. Dropping out doesn't look so hot to the public.

I don't know about USA, but in Australia finishing your HSC is almost a must, as it will hurt you in years to come in terms of employment.

Finishing high school isn't necessarily about learning, it's about keeping your options open. My advice would be don't jump into anything too early, if you aren't sure, then stay in school because you can always join the reserves later.

High school is only four years of your life. Its not that long compared to the rest of it. A lot of people end up being to impatient and drop out. Figure out that life isn't as easy as they thought. That dreams don't always come true. And some how end up serving fast food for the rest of their life. Had they finished high school or maybe went to college, they would've had a lot more options. It's even more important in these economic times. So just don't fuck up your life this early on. It's a bad start.

Just finish your schooling. There's no reason to drop out now when your dream can be easier achieved with a high school diploma in only a year.

Regardless of the reason, finish high school. I don't understand the complete circumstances but what college would take you after being in the reserves (government paid scholarship or not) if you didn't even get your high school diploma? And would discriminating employers want to see a community college on your resume? Again, I don't know but some of it seems like simple common sense.

Unrelated note (could probably be ignored): Based on vague stereotypes I've heard, is the navy really a good thing? try another branch. I suggest the coastguard.

Second unrelated note: Algebra is awesome. At least get through the simple stuff.

Finish high school and do your algebra. I remember when I was doing exams I saw this quote on one of the bill boards it went something like:

"Doing what is easy is not always right. Doing what is right is not always popular."

To me, this concept is baffling, for our equivalent of highschool isn't optional, but seriously, finish it.

I hear you: I have the exact same problems with school myself. I'm learning a bunch of crap that I really don't need to know, all so I can get a piece of paper that proves my worth to society. It sucks. It also happens to be almost necessary to have a good life in our society. It sucks, but it's a grim reality that must be faced.

That's why I'm in college right now. I love being in college ('cause I have a great college with great people), I just hate the schoolwork and such. But it's a necessary evil. I say finish it up, tough it out: waste this time of your life so you'll be allowed to use it well when you're done.

Finish high school.

* If you haven't got enough discipline to finish high school I shudder to think what you'll be like in the Army. Consider this training of a sort.
* Some parts of the armed forces (generally the more interesting parts) in many countries do require a certain level of high school skills. Advancement in army ranks may also be easier with good grades. Believe it or not.
* You never know what weird situation life hands you. If things don't pan out in the Army it pays to have a fallback position so you're not stacking crates in a supermarket somewhere for the rest of your life.
