So what do you guys play first when you get a game that has SP and MP? Do you go to the SP to try to enjoy the story and the characters. Or do you go straight to MP to own noobs?

Whenever I get a game I always go to the SP so that I can learn how everything works in the game and enjoy the story that it has. I honestly don't know why some people go straight to MP without playing the SP first.

I will usually go do single player for a bit to get a hang of the controls and get into it, then may check out the multi player to see if it's any good. From then on usually just alternate between the two until I've finished the story and/or I got all the achievements I think I can get.

If a game has both.... and GOOD online... I play single player first so that I know how to play, and so I can beat the game. Other than that single player is way more fun.... sometimes :(.

Some games are made for online, some are made for single player some games are made for co-op...... some should have never ever been made.

Single player for me. I actaully much prefer the single player to the multiplayer in MW2. I thought the campaign was fun.

I'll play multiplayer on occasion but I have to really be in the mood for it. That said I still have yet to play a single round of Unreal Tournament 2004/UT3 online. The bots are challenge enough.

If a game has both I aim to complete the single-player component first; I don't know why but that's how I always do it.

I tend to agree. It may be a hold-over from gaming before the internet was really an option for gaming, gotta play the single player first. I also find that my competitive spirit is lacking and multiplayer can be frustrating (lag, cheap deaths) where single player is usually less stressful unless it's a bad game.

I always play through single player first, assuming there's not any option to play through the campaign with more than one person. If there is, I don't know if it really qualifies as "single player" anymore... but I still play through the campaign mode first, before even thinking about multiplayer.

To me, not only it depends on the game, but the system as well. For example, With the Wii, I have a a lot of online multiplayer games as well as a lot of single player campaigns that are lengthy, so I tackle the single player before multiplayer. As for the Xbox 360, I have multiplayer focused games with crappy single player campaigns. So I play it for 30mins-1 hour then go back to the Wii.

Single player, helps get a feel for the game and is probably why I'm playing in the first place, multiplay is extra, unless I have actual friends around.

Multi for games like L4D, most of the rest is SP for me. If i play MP, i try to play with my friends only (thatss why i like L4D, coop with friend is fun)

Single player is the filling of any good sandwich. Multiplayer, at most, is the bread that pads it outs, and makes it a little bigger to eat, but it is padding at best. Without the filling, (good filling mind you, with Branston pickle and chocolate spread, etc) you are only eating bread, which would be foul.
Any game that relies on multiplayer for its' sales, (because of bad story, under developed characters, so forth) is not worthy to be sold as a game. (MW2, looking at you. I found you on Amazon, you looked pretty, with your makeup and your tanned body. But when I finally got a good look at you later, I discovered that you were only using your tan to hide the putrid putty underneath.)
Long story short, multiplayer is good as long as the game focusses solely on multiplayer. A mix of multiplayer and campaign is often horrible, (MW2) though I do have high expectations for Dead Space 2.

I fire up the single player portion of the title, but saying I do that first is misleading, because I never fire up the multi-player portion of it. Multi-player sections are non-canonical and strain my suspension of disbelief past the breaking point, while also being devoid of narrative structure and a sense of immersion into an alternate universe.

In short, they are not why I buy and play games.

My enjoyment of Heroes Ascent in Guild Wars in no way invalidates my anti-multiplayer stance, no sirree! Definitely not a completely hypocritical thing for me to enjoy.
