Funny story: today my substitute in English wrote "Obama bin Laden" on the board.

OT: As long as I'd be fine, why wouldn't I?

Well, I'm thinking most of us here didn't go to sniper school, so it's very likely that we'll miss, but is that really the point?

Anyway, I don't know what I would do. I think that I should shoot, definitely. But it seems to me that I would probably want to stay out of these kinds of affairs (and I'm just not a killer). Then again, I'm wondering what I'm doing near OBL with a sniper rifle...
No, the situation is more serendipitous. Either your in the military, or some other situation that would present this kind of scenario to you. The third option is probably what I would say if it wasn't my thread, but the assumption is that if you have a sniper rifle and Osama in your sites you can probably use it.
If I was in the military, I would shoot him. (If I was just a civilian strolling about with my sniper rifle and happened to run into him, I'd probably do nothing.)

I'd assume I have military training. In which case, I'd most likely be obligated by the shaping of my mind to contact my superiors with something along the lines of telling them that he's in my sights and asking if I should take the shot.

Because even if he is a terrorist leader, the military will chew you out if you kill anyone outside of a battle without orders.

Most definitely. It's funny you bring this up because we had a chance to do this in the 90's. Except it was a predator drone operator instead of a sniper. Clinton didn't want to cause an incident, so he told the operator to back off.
However, by taking that shot, you know you're going to get dishonorably discharged. However, I believe in sacrifice for a greater cause and this would be no problem to me.

Edit: Oh, by the way. If you guys think that he deserved worse than shooting him in the head, I agree. That's why if given the opportunity I would have shot him in the lung. It's a very slow and painful death where you essentially drown in your own blood.

Yup. Osama had it coming to him. You don't hurt AMERICANS without some serious s*** hitting the fan. I'd pop a cap in him without a second thought.

So you intend on going to South America and hurt anyone that commits a crime that involved them hurting someone else. Or hell, do you intend on doing it in the U.S.?

Well, I have absolutely no formal training in arms so... I'd probably break my shoulder or black my eye and achieve nothing more than maybe hit a passing duck on a rebound.

I take it you're not from the US then. I live in the New York area and I know a lot of people that lost loved ones in the September 11 attack on the world trade center. I would take the shot. Maybe he hasn't hurt me personally but he hurt a lot of people around me.

I was talking specifically on Osama, not about anyone in South America or in the U.S.

Well I'm quite a good shot and I'd be doing the world a favor so yeah I wouldn't think twice. Although I would like to imagine in this situation that I'm an assassin hired by some western country to keep things off the record. That way I can kill him and get teh moneyz for my trouble.

Captcha: aritypin Kopff, I want this to be the name of the next Bond villain.

You obviously didn't read the part that I specifically quoted. Or you did and decided to completely ignore the point I was trying to make.

I don´t know. I honestly never gave a damn about the guy one way or the other, and if I had to pick the bigger threat to global stability, it wouldn´t be some bearded guys with limited intelligence and shitty weapons. It would be the army that can level this planet several dozen times over, lead by a bunch of guys with the same limited intelligence.

I will not be the judge, jury, and executioner to someone I don't even know that well if at all. No.

This is a simple thread, if you were a sniper two years ago and you caught Bin Laden in your sites would you shoot him. If you shoot him you can escape his body guard no problem.

My answer is that I would take the shot.
Whats the paycheck? I'm not interested if there isn't decent buck behind my bang.

I'm a pacifist, so no. I would not kill him. I also trust that my marksmanship (from last time I was shooting) is far too bad to be able to kill someone.

I'd probably report it to whatever superior I could get in contact with, and request permission.

If it looked like he might get away before I got permission though, I'd probably take the shot.

This is presuming I'd have the necessary training operating a sniper rifle, and a decent spotter, so I could hit him.

There's no proof linking him to the attacks besides him being a muslim like the attackers and the fact he said it was him on camera. If i go on camera and say i'm the one that caused the Japanese tsunami, does that mean it's true?
