I'm not currently living in a neighborhood. I live on a farm and the closest house to me is inhabited by my GF's, Mom's, Dad. So I know the neighbor even if there's only him and his gold-digging *****-wife.

When I lived back home with Mom, siblings and, step-dad I was in an actual neighborhood. I knew the neighbors who lived next to and across the street from me but that was about it. I didn't know anybody in the nearby culldasac (can not spell that word). Funny story though: one night in the early/mid 2000's (between 4 and 7) that particular area was raided by police and SWAT. Apparently one of the houses in that dark little corner was a hive of MS-13.

My old neighborhood wasn't exactly tight-tight. We would sometimes have multi-family yard sales but, no big neighborhood events.

We had the best damn neighbors, then we moved. We have a fairly nice cast of neighbors, but there's always one that ruins it. The neighbors to the left of me have a restraining order on the neighbors to my right, if that's any indication of how things are going right now.

at my old neighborhood, we knew around half the neighborhood, the other half were either old as hell or very secretive/weird, and we'd occasionally talk and wave as we passed by.

my new neighborhood? usually have a block party every other month and talk a decent amount, with the neighborhood kids playing all summer and talking on weekends during the school year

not that its a bad thing, but we have a family of 9 down the street that are all autistic (not the parents) and the kids have ZERO common sense when it comes to running out in the street and watching out for cars, so i always have to go like 5 mph by there house to watch out for the kids.

I live in a fairly densely-packed neighbourhood (four generations of my family all live within 100 yards of one-another), and I grew up with / played outside with / went to school with most of the people my age. But most of them have taken dramatic personality turns towards the realm of the Chav, and I in the opposite direction towards the metalhead/goth clique. As such, I've felt increasingly isolated from most of the people I used to hang out with, which is sad in a way.

Jack and Calumon said:
On one side, I have Neighbours who don't stay. Either whoever lives at Number 3 is an ass (Who also keeps changing, so probably not) or that house is ass. We don't talk to our neighbours much and we don't have any wild parties, so can't be us (I hope).

On the other side, I have neighbours who own a big-ass mobile home that blocks the view from the lounge on one side, like to mow their lawn and chainsaw trees at 9 o'clock in the fucking morning, bought a intruder detection system that is a frog with sensors, but the frog croaks at deafening volumes and reacts to a leaf swaying, have their 20 something year old offspring living their with their whole family and love to argue in the garden every god damn week.

I don't talk to them much.

Calumon: I don't want them to see me. They don't like Jack having cats that look over the fence. They'll be mean to me too! : (
i dont mean to be rude or invasive or anything, but do you have like two personalities or schizophrenia or something, with the Jack and Calumon thing? or you just do it because you like to?

im not judging or anything, just curious.... (feel free not to answer if you dont feel comfortable telling me

O.T. we are good friends with quite a few of out neighbours, but only ones that are like within 6 houses of use, the rest are OUTSIDERS

I live in an apartment building and know most of the folks on my end of the hall as well as the somewhat eccentric artist down at the opposite end of the hall. :) I also recognize some other residents of the building (and their dogs) although I don't know their names.

Speaking of neighbours, one of my next door neighbours just came over about ten minutes ago and she's now talking with my parents in the dining room. We don't see our neighbours very often so I find it amusing that a thread comes up about neighbours just now.

For my neighborhood, I know the people who live in the houses directly next to, behind, or across the street from my house. I figure that is just due to them being near us. When someone lives right next to you, you are bound to run into them eventually, and all of them are nice people so we do make a point to say hi every once in a while.
Beyond that, I really do not know anyone except for a few of my friends in nearby culdesacs, and even then that only adds up to five people. Though, I really do not live in a neighborhood that allows people to get together easily. I do not live in a culdesac or on a sidestreet. My house is on a 45 mile per hour road that people use to commute from place to place. It is not really a street where you just walk down and throw a block party, unless you know someone down one of the culdesacs and throw it down there. I know several people try to tell me that the entire street is my neighborhood and I should know all about it, but really by neighborhood consists only of immediate neighbors. It does not encourage going down the street to meet up with others.

I do occassionally meet up with some of my neighbors at block parties down a culdesac. I suppose that does count towards knowing my neighbors a little, though I really only know the kids my age. I might have met some of the adults, but I cannot say I really know them. I only know of them due to my parents. I guess you can say that I do know my neighbors, but not enough to say that I could hang out with them or be able to just invite them to something. Aside from four or five familys, I cannot really say I could tell you anything about my neighbors beyond there name, and even then that is stretching my knowledge a little bit too far.

I just moved to a new flat and there are only 6 flats in the little complex and only one in my actual building and it's empty so I don't know anyone.
Parents house know everyone in the street nearly and it's a small village and my mum walks dogs so she knows loads of people.

My neighborhood is made up of really old folk or really young folk. I know a few people -- we're good friends with out next door neighbors, my sister is friends with one neighbor, and I go to school with three others on my street and we have... conversations.

However, most I don't know.

All of my neighbours are strangers to me.

In contrast, a friend of mine lives in the supposed "bad part of town", predominantly African immigrants, and everyone seems to know each other. It feels like, y'know, a community,. The affluent folk don't seem to want to have anything to do with each other.

Reads thread name. Instant reaction = Awesomeeee.

But yeah, I generally hate my neighbors. They're obnoxious, protective of their property, hate everyone else in the street. Put it this way, If I was attacked by a bear, they'd all run away.
