One problem with creatures that reproduce asexually is that they have no genetic diversity.
You are essentially going to cut your ability to grow as a species. As such, the species likely won't survive it. Humans are adaptable, but you're essentially taking a massive leap backwards in genetic viability.
Particularly considering as well that we are a highly social species that perhaps needs the whole: "I do things to attract a mate." as a predominant motivator in life.
As for what I'd do personally? Dunno... Rub my exes' noses in it?
Realize that I can never have anything resembling normalcy again.
Probably eventually suicide.

I would study to become a biologist who specializes in biological engineering and figure out how to make synthetic sperm cells. If i was a woman i would try to do the same in reverse but i would probably be captured by rednecks or republicans or whatever and used as a reproduction slave. any daughters i might have would suffer the same fate after me. The more i think about this scenario, the more it turns into a seriously bleak post-apocalyptic novel

Reminds me of the Sliders episode "Love Gods" where most of the men on Earth were wiped out and only a few hundred remain. It was a world where IVF had never been discovered. It was interesting to see how the loss of one medical technology led to the remaining men being used as nothing more than breeding stock.

assuming all sperm banks and such are destroyed and assuming making artificial sperm is impossible and assuming i wont be strapped to some sort of milking machine and assuming all milking is done "manually" then it might be fun for a week however after that i recon it would get boring pretty quickly. i would either spend my days being bored or get really good at multitasking assuming they let me play games etc whilst being "milked".

I have seen things to convince me that there are some straight women who rather like this fantasy too with the genders reversed. Have i just been transported back to secondary school? Hearing boy's fantasies explained as if it was the greatest thing since cheese on toast? I suppose this sort of situation gets rid of all that low self esteem and jealousy that plagues real life males. How appealing on a surface level. There are plenty female biologists, they can find ways to reproduce without my sorry sack requiring regular extracts. Just food for thought, but if there were only one female left, even if they were kept on a constant pregnancy cycle with a different dude every time, there probably wouldn't be enough to maintain genetic diversity, and we'd all be completely inbred in like 3 generations.
With a male the reproduction rate 1~ (Not factoring in infertility, twins etc.) every 9 months per willing female, (Which is apparently a large number in this scenario) so there would be enough that when your sons are old enough they could do the same until the genes have diversified enough for it not to be an issue.

The dude is being incredibly selfish if he doesn't want to continue the human race because of anything other than they are simply horrible people.
Like "Y the last man"? The women in that series who were left didn't deserve to continue their species. So if he'd just said, "Nope, I'm out" then sure. At least there'd be a subjective evaluation of the outcome of his actions and like it or not it's not a selfish reason.
But just because the dude has a girlfriend and want to see her first? Haha, it wouldn't be a paragon choice to decide not to perpetuate the species regardless of her comments. At that point the "paragon" is just being dumb.
Not only that, but I'm sure he could just leave a couple samples at the bank and let them get to work on their own if he were really that bent out of shape about doing an incredibly good thing himself and saving the human race like a man.
A scenario where the only surviving person is a woman would be a lot more dangerous for the human race. Inbreeding isn't always an inevitability but your odds of avoiding it improve drastically the wider the base you get. Even with only two remaining survivors you should potentially be able to save humanity by having enough children to where some normal children come out of the process and can themselves over-procreate so that enough normal children survive and diversify genetically. So even with one woman you could propagate the human species but what a terrible life it'd be for her for the next 16 years or so (assuming she has a girl and procreation with people under 18 no longer becomes a thing). But the key to humanity's survival would be her producing as many children as quickly as possible and hopefully to have as many females as possible (assuming a non-zero number of males would still be fertile once they're of age). Even if she just manages to have two child bearing females then she'd have done her job but the more she has the better chance the human race has.
Essentially, a male protagonist would be looking at a life of partying and chaffing whereas a female protagonist would be looking at a life of constant pregnancy.

I understand that I'll never understand what it's like to be pregnant, let alone pregnant for 16 or some years, let alone having no say in the matter. But, provided that all parties understood the dire nature of the situation at hand ( and I know it might be naive of me), but I'd like to think that the last woman would get (or at least be given the option) to choose her suitors, be kept like a queen, never want for any material goods, have droves of male servants for anything she needs, etc. And I would also hope that, after she served the race through to menopause, she would still be given the incredible amount of respect and admiration she would have rightfully earned as the Mother of the next generation and savior of the race.Lightknight said:
