The best way to "improve" 3D Sonic games....using the search button. This thread has been done to death.

But on topic, the best way to improve 3D Sonic games would be to strip it down to the bare essentials; an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog, high speed gameplay, collecting rings, saving little forest critters. No convoluted plots involving evil genies or doppleganger King Arthur. No pulling a MGS4 and trying to fit as many bloody characters into the game as possible. No adding new characters who we still don't care about. No creepy inter-species relationship implications by having a human love interest. No guns. No cheesy one-liners. Just plain Sonic.

Barring that, a .30-06 works just as well.
Yeah sorry 'bout the thread thing, i'm still kindofa newbie.

I just got done checking my Sonic 1 manual, not a word in there about Ivo Kintobor, only Ivo Robotnik.
I think the whole Ovi Kintobor/Ivo Robotnik thing was in one of the books, although I don't know how canon they are. I remember reading when I was little where Kintobor was doing an experiment and had Sonic running on a treadmill for some reason, it all went a bit wrong and voila, blue hedgehog who can break the sound barrier, big explosion and Ivo Robotnik is created. Can't remember what the book's called though (I was 9 or so at the time).

I will look further into it, I must learn the origin of the Dr. Kintobor story!

I think it might have been 'Sonic in the Fourth Dimension' that I was thinking of. I would link it but I don't know if linking to selling sites are allowed here. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that's where the story came about.

Save for the Robotnik/Eggman idea (I actually prefer the name 'Eggman'), all of those are the key factors here. All of the options in the poll are the things that need to be done to save Sonic. My own option, which I feel most strongly with, is open world, simply because the games are too linear. However, the 2D option doesn't really fit with that. The original 2D games, of course, were the best (although I personally could never manage to do the up/down drums thing in the Carnival zones). The games need to be taken back to what made them great, which means 2D, unless we can introduce a non-suckish open world 3D style. Sonic Adventure was very good, and I actually liked Sonic Heroes for a time, but then got bored and sold it. Otherwise, the 3D games were the series downfall, and subsequent attempts to make it better, such as the new characters, have simply made it worse (God, I hate Charmy Bee...). Back to basics is the best policy here, if it can be done without simply a Sonic 1 rehash (i.e. different but still decent story, and some new elements that still fit with the series theme...).

Don't make a new game. Instead build some new zones and acts for the old games and release them other digital distrubution networks...oh hang on. Rom hacks have been doing that for years lets just go play them.

i personally have had trouble running in a straight line in the 3-d sonic games, so if they really want to have 3-d then they should make the controls a little more user friendly

Sonic is about speed and umm being blue. I'd say the biggest problems in the 3d games are usually horrible cameras, slow movement, and humans being in their world. I mean seriously WTH it should not be a dragonball-esque world with animals and people talking to each other. It wouldn't hurt to get rid of some of his "friends".(Big the Cat, Amy, Shadow I'm looking at you guys)

They could start by actually BETA TESTING the games BEFORE they release them. That and get rid of the stupid gimmicks, Sonic Unleashed could have worked fine without the tedious Were-Hog sections.

Hey! Thanks for the info, just give me a sec to look into it...Oh, if that's the case it doesn't apply to what we're working on here then... Cary On!

See, I had no idea they brought Charmy Bee back into the games until I bought and beat Shadow the Hedgehog last week. He used to be smaller...like a bee...anyways! Thanks for the info, it was very inciteful. I just know sonic has what it takes to work in an open world 3D environment! It's one of those things that most people just won't think it will work until they see it for themselves.

I could do with ditching Big, Shadow has some fan-service so I would like to see him VERY sparingly, as for Amy, I wouldn't mind her as part of the story, but playable? No.

That question just BEGS to be answered! Who is testing these games! And who thinks they're fun. It kinda makes you want to find these people, and chop off their thumbs so they'll never have an opinion about another game again!

Disclaimer: SonicSpin does not endorse the cutting-off of Sega Testers thumbs.

It's really important that fans of the sonic franchise, or just fans of the sonic character express their opinion. I am really interested in what you have to say, and so far I have already received some very helpful feedback, so keep it coming folks!

Great, adding to a discussion without a knowledge base of the games. How helpful! Thats like adding to a "How to improve Mario" thread but haven't posted since the NES days.
The gameplay style has not changed significantly in the last two or three 3D Sonic games; in fact, outside of the semi-2D stuff in Unleashed, and the on-rails controls of the Wii versions, the formula has been near-identical since Sonic Adventure. Stop with the straw man argument and try addressing something relevant that I've said.

And? Sonic Adventure is HIGHLY more talked about then Sonic on the genesis. Going back to 2D like megaman doesn't mean jack. It might work ONCE, but it won't work if they are trying to make a dozen more Sonic games which... wait a second.... yup they are.

Stop with straw arguments? You don't even have a point. You are just attacking others.

I believe that Sonic should just stick to 2D gameplay, but there are also many other things which need to be changed before Sonic ever has a chance of being good again!
