Played it, but compared to Tiberian Sun, or even Age of Empires II, I found it slow, boring, and based largely around ammassing the largest amount of units. Simply put, there were better games at the time.

I've never played it. I didn't have any interest in it when it first came out, and now that I have marginal interest, I can't find anywhere to buy it for a good price.
Don't know if you'd consider it a good price or not, but Blizzard sells both the original game and it's expansion, "Brood Wars" in a bundle for 15$, at their digital store.

No credit card means no online purchases for me I'm afraid. I also tend to prefer having a physical copy of a game as well, so the digital download copy would be something I'd buy as a last resort, so to speak.

Maybe I'll just wait for StarCraft II...
If you feel ambitious you could pay cash for an amazon or visa gift card and use that online. Pretty sure Amazons got a bundle for $20 which includes an expansion and a strat guide.

Loved the piss out of it, like all Blizzard RTSes. Even now, I'm trying to get it embedded in our school's network, so we can play it. Pain in the ass without admin rights though...

I'm bringing LAN parties back, baby!

No. I've seen others play it, and it seems like any other generic RTS.

It was a great game, but its not something I still play because my interest in RTS games has fallen away.

I bought Starcraft. I played it through. Call me a fool, but in all honesty, I think everything Starcraft did, Warcraft III did better. Granted, they had four years to absorb the feedback from Starcraft and make a better RTS. However, I can't help but notice that Starcraft is known the world over as a truly spectacular RTS whereas WC3 is only mentioned occasionally.

Don't get me wrong: I don't think Starcraft is a bad game, or even a mediocre one, I just think it's certainly not the best RTS the world, or even Blizzard, has produced. IMHO: The best proper RTS games ever created are Command and Conquer 3 and Dawn of War.

tried nr. 1, couldent work with the 2d ness and lack of some kind of leader/hero unit, its a state of mind thing.
( single player though, was verry interesting )

played number 2 beta, went MEH @ graphics for power, but the gameplay is sort of there.
terran themesong rocks my socks in nuber 2.

company of heroes? defenitly company of heroes, though dawn of war and C&C follow closely indeed.

If you like the RTS genre and don't like Starcraft... Then there's something wrong with you, its the best RTS ever (or at least until Starcraft II comes out...)

A good game, I still have it on my PC. Liked playing the Terrans, but did really well as the Zerg on campaign mode.

agreed company of heroes is fantastic. good graphics but requires not that much power (hell even i an play it), great gameplay especiialy with friends and its reasonably well modable.
somehow it does not bore me at all

I love the Protoss. I'll go for strength over numbers anyday. "What's this? They are rushing with 24 zerglings? I counter a small wall of 5-6 zealots at my entrance. I win."

Also...

Company of Heroes is spectacular. However, I think the balance between combat and base building is a little skewed for it to truly be a "traditional" RTS. DoW and CnC3 are just the most Starcraft-like out of my favorites, and I will concede that Starcraft was one of the first games to be recognizable as the RTS games we know today.

Other nontraditional RTS that are just as good as any I mentioned above are Dawn of War II, Medieval II: Total War, and Sins of a Solar Empire. And CoH, of course.

I played it a bit back when it first came out. It was a fun game but I never really got fanatical about it like many others.

For some reason, I never really liked Starcraft 1 that much, but I'm loving Starcraft 2. Lots.

Protoss are made of win! My fave by a mile at the moment. The new warp-gates are delicious.

I tried it, but never got around to continuing. But I am enjoying the Starcraft II beta. (Even though I suck at it.)

Still got it.
Still have both CDs for Starcraft and Brood War.
Still play around with the map editor from time to time.
Not really a fan of the multiplayer, but it's still a good game.

What a silly poll. If you've got a computer and you're into videogames OF COURSE you've played Starcraft.

Played it, didn't like it. I know that I'm in a very small minority.
