If you want an example of that for future arguments, Aristotle argued against literacy because he thought it would give people short memories and lead to shallower thought/thinkingMr.K. said:if we go far enough back I'm pretty sure someone objected to the wheel and called it corruption of youth and what not.
It's in movies, books, music, and art already, so it seems you're a bit late. Oh, and if you missed it, the society seems to also be interested in sex. See talk shows, advice columns, and the media I already mentioned. So, it seems you're also a bit wrong.Baldr said:Sex is a private matter between individuals, not society, therefore it does not belong in the media.
It's not that the game was poorly received. It's that FOX news stirred up a veritable shitstorm about the sexual content in the game, and the gaming community fired such a vigorous shitstorm in return that the "expert" they had originally brought on the program to condemn the game made an apology afterward. After gamers rating-bombed a book of hers on Amazon, she came out with a letter saying that she hadn't played the game, and that FOX had given her materials to look over before the program, but after she did some investigating on her own she came to realize it wasn't nearly as bad as FOX had convinced her it was. Jim Sterling even did an episode of the Jimquisition about it.ProfessorLayton said:M... Mass Effect 1 was poorly received? Where?
What, so when we're making stories about people we just have to ignore the fact that sex exists? I agree that people shouldn't be giving play-by-plays of their sex lives on Twitter and Facebook and in the news, but ignoring it in all artistic media is just silly.Baldr said:Sex is a private matter between individuals, not society, therefore it does not belong in the media.
While true, are there that many people, outside the gaming circle, who still remember that? I only manage to retain the memory because it keeps cropping up in gamer discussions, never have I seen/heard/read any other people talk about that (well, except few mentions to do with how Fox sucks). And it has been several years already. I don't really think that qualifies as "poorly received" if it only happened for a very short while - pretty much everybody critiqued Fox afterwards, including Jack friggin' Thompson himself. You know your fight against a game is not going well, if the one man vidya inquisition calls bullshit on it.Lilani said:It's not that the game was poorly received. Technically, the only heroine in KS who didn't take the lead at some point was Hanako. Even Rin engineered her scene.Marik2 said:I also liked how Lilly was taking the lead with her love scenes. It showed her character well in how she handles situations.
Trying to find other games that have a strong female protagonist that has them taking the lead
Yeah, I dunno. Apparently the OP remembers quite well that whole shitstorm. I don't really know what else to make of it apart from that, quite honestly :S Poorly presented doesn't even begin to describe this topic.DoPo said:While true, are there that many people, outside the gaming circle, who still remember that? Metacritic. It only got 89, that's a terrible score.ProfessorLayton said:M... Mass Effect 1 was poorly received? Where?
Katawa Shoujo so far is the only game/VN that I have seen that handles sex in a mature manner. I am sure it isn't the only game/VN to handle it maturely but I have not seen any others.Caramel Frappe said:Marik2 said:SnipAmen to you guys for bringing up Katawa Shoujo.Renegade Shepard said:Snip
It's the first visual novel (if not game in general) to make the sex scenes meaningful rather then erotic. When Hanako's sex scene came up, I wasn't blushing or finding myself turning away to the sex. Instead, it showed the depth of her and Hisao's relationship plus pointed out how much of a dumbo Hisao is using the chance to do Hanako when she was showing him her scars.
Every sex scene was unique, and didn't even show a lot apart from the nudity itself. It tied with the stories and basically KS is saying "Sex isn't all about pleasure and hot tension, it's pretty awkward and can go wrong leading to consequences in the long run." You would agree to this especially if you decided to comfort Misha ... by the way Hisao comfort doesn't mean have sex with a stressed out girl.
