Do you remember the episode of the Simpsons where all the giant ad boards came to life and nearly destroyed the world?

The ads were defeated by being ignored. It's the same principle. Ignore it like a baby with colic.

Man I wish the Simpsons would go back to being good.

OP is spot on. I first heard of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Twilight through anti-Bieber/Gaga/Twilight rants. They are their own worst enemy. I felt obliged to check out these things and discovered that:

a) I... haven't actually heard a Bieber song yet so I am undecided. I wish the guy every success though seen as he seems like a nice enough kid.
b) A few Lady Gaga songs are pretty good actually. I like Poker Face, Bad Romance, Dance in the Dark and LoveGame (those are songs, not albums).
c) I saw the second Twilight film and it was... pretty good actually. Probably an alright film that I went in with really low expectations of because of the fuss about it, and thus ended up surprised by me enjoying it. I saw the third film and it was pretty much the same. The whole tone of the thing makes me smile, all the angry characters and the odd reactions. I can't really understand the undying appeal it holds (other than Jacob's chest) and yet I struggle even more so to see why it is reviled. I saw the MovieBob review and it was completely off, pulling everything completely out of context to make it seem like it was some evil construct, it was just nonsense. I have no intention of reading the books though, its a much bigger commitment than a couple of hours at the cinema and there are countless books that I haven't read that seem more interesting.

I blame obsessive tweenies and their moms and even all the anti fans who are just obsessed about it for one reason or another. They should just shut up about it... or maybe go into in all out brawl, I don't care. Heck, I'd even watch the latter!

I used to be real hater, but then I said to myself 'Markus, this is a very stupid series of books. Due to their own stupidity, they will vanish.' Sort of like last school year grade nines trolled me (IN PERSON) and I didn't tear their heads because I knew, due to their own stupidity, they would die long before me.

I could care lessTo all snarkers who want to comment on the incorrectness of that statement: I care even less about what you say than Twilight. TAKE THAT....

Never mention it again. The sooner it's unannounced, the sooner it will just be covered in the dust of time. Constantly moaning about it will only keep the fire fueled.

People who hate Twilight should congregate in threads like these and explain why the hate it. Or not. Just the common target is good enough.

I really think we should just stop talking about it. I'm getting sick of even hating Twilight, let alone thinking about it. Let's just drop it and give it the good old middle finger treatment each time we run across it.

If they're stupid enough to enjoy workings of a bland hellspawn then they're not going to change their minds when presented with logic.
So leave the idiots to wallow in a pile of Edward posters.

I think people enjoy hating on twilight (myself included) because there a ton of people who like it, but when you ask them why, they never come up with a real reason.

But it's soo cool to hate Twilight without seeing the movies or reading the books. If you're not cool, your life has no meaning!

[small]The sarcasm in this post almost killed me.[/small]

Agreed. Twilight is going to be dead eventually, or the cult's of twi-hards will be dead from mass suicide trying to get Edward, so either way it'll go at some point.

Fine if it's the occasional thing, but otherwise.. shut the fuck up about it.

It's called equal and opposite reaction. When confronted with a gargantuan group of people that endlessly praise something and declare it the apex of the medium, when in reality it is painfully average at the very best, other people react with the same level of passion in their vitriol in an attempt to "balance the scale". We can see this in video games for example with people being perplexed about the praise directed towards things such as Halo and Modern Warfare and reacting accordingly. Personally, as I haven't encountered anyone obsessed with it, I simply declare it stupid and ignore it, but I can't say others should follow my or others' example.

The only problem I have with twilight haters is that they hate it (usually) for the wrong reasons. Everyone I've talked to in real life hates it because they think there are tons of fancy words or misspellings, and they constantly complain that Bella is in an abusive relationship, she made the choices herself, just because she's stupid doesn't make Edward abusive, it makes her an idiot. If they focused on the real problems, horrid storytelling, the utter fucking up of vampires, the horrifying lack of descriptions for most of the characters, I wouldn't care.
Personally, I would think that putting such a broken relationship, no matter who is to blame,
at the centre of a world of fiction that many young girls wish they could be part of is a bigger problem than things like shoddy plotting or weak characters. If the series wasn't so popular I'd be with you on not wanting anyone to champion poor literature, but because of the cultural and mental vortex it's created amongst young (and not so young) ladies I do feel that the promotion of situations these girls are wanting to emulate are a bigger problem.

Anti-twilighters are about a hundred times more annoying than twilight-fans. It's ridiculous.
I have to agree with this. It's cooled down lately, sure, but even here on a site where it seems pretty obvious most of the users hate Twilight with the burning passion of a million suns you just can't get away from people complaining about it. For the most part, and outside of the pre/post release media blitzes that you get for everything these days, Twilight just isn't that big a deal anymore. The Twilight fans keep mostly to themselves and the only ones out and about with megaphones are the anti-twilighters.

Yes, that is it! The last sentence sums up my loathing of Twilight almost perfectly. If he were a REAL vampire this is how it would have turned out(careful, he has some NSFW images, too) -> http://www.flickr.com/photos/rustychainsaw/3900613885/sizes/z/in/photostream Where's David when you really need him?

So how come we're stuck with this dead, post-Harry Potter tweenage nonsense, when most of us (I presume) have never seen the film OR read the books.
I read the first book and watched the first film. They sucked, but i think that proclaiming hate over something you've not really checked out is kind of ignorant. But ok.

I do think that something has to be done about the Twilight series. Yes, we have seen awful-yet-somehow-popular things before. Take a look at Justin Bieber. Sure, every intelligent person hates him and the attention he's getting, but he's not causing anybody any harm. Difference is, the Twilight series is having a negative effect on young women. She is teaching girls to always stay submissive, to stay out of a man's affairs, to always get into some form of relationship, and, worst of all, to get married at a young age.
Don't get me wrong, normally I'd let them wallow in their own stupidity. Problem is, these submissive and stupid girls will grow up to be submissive and stupid women.
