Cyndaquil... Because you cannot deny that an adorable flaming hedgehog that evolves into an adorable, badass badger that can turn itself into a rolling fireball is completely epic. Also, because Gen 2 is completely better than Gen 1 in almost every aspect.
What did I just say about Gen 2? There was no Gen 2.

Move along, Sir.
I disagree, and maintain that there was indeed a second Generation.
Wikipedia seems to read otherwise, my friend.
I wonder what it said before you wrote anything?

Technically, it was squirtle. I read some article on what was technically the best starter a few years ago.

Still, who gives a damn about technical best when there's fun involved?

Squirtle is my main man, even though Bulbasaur makes the first two gyms laughably easy. But you never see Bulbasaur wearing cool shades.

Another point for Squirtle!

Plus, he can learn Ice Beam, which kicks all kinds of ass. Namely, Lance's.

Even though he's a poor choice for the first few bits of the game, I still find Charmander the best of the three. (Charizard anyone?)

Plus, the fire type starter has always been the coolest. Hell, the fire type just rules overall.

Of course, I only include Generation One because everyone knows that there were only three Pokemon games.
I hate it when people say "There was only one generation of Pokémon!" or "Only Red, Blue and Yellow count!". It's so stupid. Just say "I only liked the first Pokémon games, I didn't like the others". There's still fans who play and like the newer games, so it's a bit unfair on them.

Anyway, my all time favorite Starter Pokémon is Cynderquil, from Gold, Silver and Crystal.

My favorite ones from each games are Charmander, Cynderquil, Mudkip and Piplup.

I have a habit of picking out my favorite for each generation and sticking with it. I go...

Bulbasaur, Totodile, Mudkip, Turtwig.

It's all eccentric preference, really.
Same...

...I liked Mudkips before they were cool. >:

I tend to go with Squirtle. The water attacks take down fire, ground and rock types, but more importantly, he learns blizzard and ice beam, allowing him to also take down other water types and dragons. You can take down practically the whole Elite 4 with a well trained squirtle. Squirtle simply has more options than Charamander and Bulbasaur. (Though admittedly Charizard can learn Mega Kick which kicks all kinds of ass.)

Except the fact that they're genetically inferior to me in every way. XD

Seriously, though, I just think Pokemon couldn't really ever live up to RBY, and the anime seems to be on the steady decline into Adaptation Hell.
