I can recall, at least I think I can recall, it being used in Red Dead Redemption.

As far as my thoughts on the word, I don't use it but I have no problems with it being used in video games. Provided it is done for a purpose however. Mindless swearing really irritates me.

Whenever I hear "the c word" in video games (and even movies), I always get a little thrown off for a second. I don't know if it's a regional thing, but I've rarely heard the word used outside of "you're a mad/sick ****".
Anyway, I see no problem with it being used in video games. I think that because it holds a slightly sexual meaning, it's "more offensive" and "daring" to use, because we all know that anything sexual in a video game is infinetly worse than any type of violence.

I think what our Non-American Escapists may be unaware of, is that ****, in the US, is a very powerful word. I realize it is very commonly used in Britain, but your prudish puritanical cousins make a point of not using it very often. I don't personally care if the word is used, my policy on swearing is "curse" words should be used if:
1) It's realistic (gaming/writing I mean)
2) It is needed to get a point across

Do you remember where? I've played that game a couple of times, and I don't remember hearing it. I rarely hear the C-word in any form of media. I remember it was used in the movie Inside Man though.

If I say the F word, nobody flinches. I say the C word, and people go tense. I say the N word and suddenly I'm a racist. They're all just words, yet people make a big deal about things that anyone with a Maturity level can shrug off. If I hear '******' used maybe once in a game or movie, no big deal. But if people are doing NOTHING but throw the word around, I just have to turn it off just because of how low they have to sink to throwing around swears to try and get views or gameplay.

Okay, this is not meant to be an incendiary post, and i'm not trying to offend our lovely lady escapists but the c-word has almost always been considered more offensive than most profanity. The first game that I've noticed using the c-word was GTA IV when Pegorino is getting paranoid and says to Niko "The world is a ****!" which actually made me laugh out loud, cause it was kind of funny. RDR also employs the c-word on occassion. So my question is, is the c-word too far? Is it something that games could do without? I certainly don't believe so, but what do you guys think.

That being said, what games besides these do you remember hearing the c-word in?

Just for the record, to clarify if my stance is confusing, I am in total support of free speech, period. So if developers write the word **** into the script of a game, thats fine by me.

actually one of my favorite adjectives in real life (you know, that thing that's not on the internet) is "cunting" as apposed to "fucking"

the reason I like it so much is that in an expletive filled conversation you're likely to use "fuck" as more than one part of speech, and it adds depth to the conversation if you mix up your vocabulary a bit.


Games should use the "c-word" in context.
I thought a missed golden opportunity for the "c-word" was in Mass Effect 2
in the Jack v. Miranda catfight, but alas no...

(Primarily to women) Seriously, most women will shrug off being called a ***** (comparing them to a dog) but not a ****. (Comparing them to a vagina.) So when I do hear someone say it, it sounds like they are trying too hard to sound edgy. This can throw up a red flag for me personally like a couple instances in GTA4.

As a woman, I've never gotten all that worked up over it. It's just another 4-letter word. I don't think it's any worse than fuck, or anything else.

The only reason that it's such a big deal is because society makes it so. An insult is an insult. Whether "*****" or "ho" or "****" or "pussy" or anything else. It's meant to try to get a rise out of people.
