I would have to go with Picard eventhough I didn't watch alot of Next generation episodes. He's pretty much a serious but respectful captain and a good leader aswell.

Man, I came in here expecting to be able to throw my vote in for Captain Jack Harkness. Misleading title is a bit misleading.

Oh well, I suppose my vote would go in for Picard.

Janeway, although Picard seems to naturally fit the role best and is still the first one that comes to mind when I think of anything Star Trek.

Captain Jean Luc Picard for Acting, James T. Kirk for being a sort-of-Commander Shepard (like Chris Pine better than Shatner though, the original Kirk was overshadowed by Spock, McCoy and Scotty), and Janeway for being the best acted female character that leads her own series.

..But Picard still wins in the end, for me. TNG is the series I grew up on, and Captain Picard always seemed to embody the more core values and messages (diplomacy, philosophy, literature, submarine-esque warfare, etc) of Star Trek overall.

Oh, and just to put it in here, DS9 was the best series for showing off massive system scale conflict and in-general ship combat (the Dominion War).

Has anyone here seen the movie "The Captains?" It's directed by William Shatner and quite good. Look it up.

Captain Hammer! Failing that Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Nathan Fillion makes the best Captains.

This is why I like Riker better than Picard.
Really? I always thought it was the beard that made him such a chick magnet. Personally, I always though the younger, beardless Riker was the sexier version.

Anyway, my favorite captain is probably Sisko. I prefer TNG as a series, but that's mostly because I like the other characters better (Data).

What, the Star-Spangled Man With A Plan doesn't get an option?

Even if he did, I would still have to vote for Captain Marvelous (which nobody will understand unless they also watch "Gokaiger" but I stand by my choice).

I can't, in all good concious vote on this pole because Captain Commando is not in it.

In all seriousness thou, Kirk.

Captain Jack Sparrow would beat them all, if for no other reason than that he'd get drunk, wander around aimlessly for a bit, then accidentally set off some doomsday device and run away with his rum in the last escape boat, pod, car, etc.

It's been said, but may my barnacles be blistered (fully aware how innuendo-tastic that sounds) if I don't bring up Captain Haddock.

In fact, who created this thread without the option of Captain Haddock?!

Star Trek only, I take it?

Janeway. I'm quite familiar with Star Trek in general... seen all the series soooo many times. But, Janeway's overall style has always appealed to me the most. Quick witted, matter of fact, genuinely likeable, but you don't forget for a second that she's in charge.

Don't get me wrong, though. Picard is still fucking awesome. A super close second, for me. The rest are all about even for me.

Now, every sci-fi captain ever? Malcolm Reynolds, of course.
