Alright since this game has just come out I've taken it upon my self to make one of these threads. If all goes well we can feel free to ask questions, discuss everything that is Bioware's newest game. If you have any questions feel free to post them, and I or someone else will do their best to answer it. Any spoilers should be marked as such. If you don't know how just quote this and find the spoiler tag:

See it's that simple

Alright no trolling and have fun on the [Un]Official Mass Effect 2 thread.

Edit: for those who have have already bought the first one, but are playing the second. This is PC only of course

Just to throw this in here: If you don't have your saves for ME1, try this page - http://www.annakie.com/me/home.htm

It's a library of ME1 end saves. Considering that the second game defaults to the "Human supremacist" ending from ME1 if a new character is made, you might find this useful.
Edit 2: A link to my review of ME2 Click Here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.171506#4727736]

I'm not a yank, it's just a matter of going the extra mile to get it early ;)

Alright discussion topic #1: For those who have begun to play the game, what is your favorite thing that Bioware changed about Mass Effect, and you least favorite thing they changed?

Is it worth it? Are you kidding me?

Hell yeah it's damn worth it. If you haven't played this masterpiece, you might as well be dead.

This game made me cry, laugh, feel regret and feel triumph. I thought about it even when I wasn't playing it.

Undoubtedly the best game I've ever played.

Too bad it has an end. The feeling I had when the credits rolled was a mix of awe, triumph and sadness. Even though I got the best ending possible, I was still depressed. All good things must come to an end.

Best change: tightening up the shooter gameplay and at the same time optimizing the graphics so much better. The damn thing runs better on my laptop than ME1.

Least favourite change: Ammo. Having to scrounge around in corners for "heat clips" is not fun.

I can agree with you on all counts. The game is extremely well polished and delivers its story in a glorious manner. Now I also realize I neglected to answer my own question, so hear goes. My favorite change was the increased consequence for getting to know my team. My least favorite is still planet exploration; I extremely dislike the new scanning process

I remember one of the developers saying "You'll get into the game for its combat and you'll stay for the story". This man speaks the goddamn truth. I went into the game and loved the combat from the beginning to end but the thing that pushed me to finish the game was the story. Now all I need to do is make myself finish the final mission again to get a save with the other choice you can make at the end.

This game is everything I wanted it to be and even more. Can't wait for ME3.

Favorite things they changed(Bit of spoilers about romances but nothing the trailers haven't shown us):

- they got rid of the Mako. Thank fuck;
- you can romance Tali and Garrus;
- the combat;
- certain things affect the final mission. It actually matters how prepared you are.

Things they changed that I don't like:

Can't think of any right now.

I have only recruited the first member so far, went for the sniper guy. So far I can say that i love the tightened shooter controls, but the ammo seems a bit scarce. I can only carry 10 sniper shots, and I lose pistol ammo when i shoot with my sniper? Come on.

And you seem to have much less tech / biotic powers. It makes the characters more unique and speeds up the combat, but I kind of liked being able to just spam the enemies with power and utterly destroy weaker ones even on veteran. Maybe this changes further in or something, i dunno.

Also spoiler about the sniper you recruit.
Why the hell did they have to give Garrus a huge wound in the face, and a ruined armor that he keeps wearing that looks like shit? And it looks reeeaaaally big and bulky. Major downgrade to my favorite character :(

I've played 7 hours and while I love the story and some of the extras if you get if you carry over a saved game (Like messages from random sidequest people in the first game) I do have 3 problems which are going to bug me throuhout the entire game.

1) Weapons descriptions. I got given a new Assult Rifle early on and reading it I couldn't tell what the difference between the old and the new was supposed to be. Maybe I'm being a little thick but a small summery after each one such as "Reduced capacity, increased damge) would have made things much easier.

2) Regenerating Health. This I don't mind too much. However, the massive blood streaks make it hard to then find cover so you can then heal.

3) Controls. I've been playing the PC version and I find some of the controls a very counter-intuitive. The worse offenders are:

"Shift to bring up Weapons/power, space to run/cover/activate" Bioware's own history states this should have been the other way round as default as space has always been used to pause the game.

"Same button to run/cover & activate" WHY?!?!? Seriously, what was the person who tested these controls smoking when they signed off on this. If I had any skill as a modder/hacker I would make one just so you could bind activate seperately.]

"Scanning a planet". Not only does the speed/sensativity of the mouse reduce dramatically meaning I run out of desk when searching for minerals, holding the right mouse button for an extended period of time is again something rare in PC games so why make us do it here?

Other then those complaints, great game. Just wish the people who came up with the controls had spoken with the Dragon Age team.

I personally loved that to be honest
I loved Garrus in his new form because it really added to his character. He was bitter about the way of things more willing to live by the proverbial sword, and those who live by the sword...

I loved Garrus in the first game and I think its the 1st time I've ever actually cheered at a character reveal.

Yes I was very happy to see him return, and I DO like his newer bitter attitude. Never liked huge wounds / scars / broken armor though. He will probably be a more or less permanent member in my team, unless i find someone more awesome.

Unlikely
