These are the absolute worst kind of internet ads. Now ads aren't just competing with content for your attention, they actually block out the content.

Seriously Escapist, are you that hard up for money? I'll write you an f'ing check. Please get rid of these abominations.

If this crap continues, I'm just going to read escapists posts via RSS and never visit the actual site again.

There is no way I will pay $20 for a subscription to a site that would make the choice to annoy me in this way as punishment for not giving them $20. I was nice and looked at their ads now, specifically because of these, I no longer see any ads. Way to go.

Oh dear. That is rather a load of crap. I remember when huge ads like that started showing up on Wunderground like ten years ago. I had been just about to subscribe, because it was much more useful than most weather sites, and then literally the first time I saw a half/full screen ad like that on the site was the time I loaded it to go give them money. Instead, I kept my money, sent them an irritated email telling them why I wasn't giving them money (the stupid, intrusive ads), and stopped using the site for basically the next decade. They wouldn't have to fight people using ad blockers in the first place if they didn't run intrusive ads that make the site borderline unusable, because those are generally the ones people want to get rid of...

Hey guys, after reading through the responses on this thread I've spoken to our ad guys and some changes have been made. It was the intention of this campaign for you to see these ads sparingly. Due to issues with the advertisements showing too frequently in particular browsers this campaign has been paused. Thanks and have a nice day!

This hasn't happened to me yet. I'm sure it will and I'll be cursing and swearing along with you all.

The size of the ads and frequency has now been decreased. They will resume shortly, but hopefully in a way that's more agreeable to you all. Cheers!

I haven't seen anything like that and I live in the US and don't use any adblock programs so who knows. *shrugs*

I'm not a big fan of ad's on websites (just bugs me for some reason) but I do realize they do help pay the bills around here so I just put up with them as best I can.

Funny thing is, I already have Mass Effect 2. I also got a copy for a friend, so that means I got it twice. That and I have the DLC. So really, Bioware, you aren't getting any more money out of me till the next game.

OT: They don't really bother me, though. They just aren't things I am interisted in. Thanks for trying though!

And this is why I continue to come to the escapist. They listen to the audience and work accordingly. :D Thanks guys!

This website really does seem to be harsh on anyone using an add-blocker. I guess they are justified in doing so although I have absolutely no interest in buying any game until Skyrim and Mass effect 3 and no amount of adds will change that. For me they are just an annoyance.

Why not offer adspace along those 2 blue stretches at a lower price? Considering not everyone WILL see them.. then you can afford to have slightly less obnoxious ads everywhere else..

Just sayin'..
This has already been addressed earlier in the same thread.

If you'd like to write a check for the amount we're getting paid for the ads, fine, we'll be happy to cash it.

I'm not arguing with your frustration or trying to convince you that hey, ads are awesome, but this is how we make our money.

Hey guys, the issue with the ads appearing too often should be fixed. If you're still experience issues, please let us know through the contact forms [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/subject/tech] and we'll look into it.

I realize the ads are how this site makes money, but good lord, this one crosses every line of decency. Isn't there some kind of factor you weigh with ads, like the ratio of obnoxiousness to money they bring? I know people complained about the left/right side background ads, but I'd gladly take those any day over this monstrosity that actually interferes with my reading and typing (you know, the only two things I go to this site for). This is straight up disgusting.

I feel like at some point soon the absurdity of overwhelming of internet ads is going to lead to some kind of implosion. It's already far worse and more invasive than ads in TV or print have ever been. I literally stopped going to IMDB when they started using this type of ad, and theirs were much smaller than the ones on here. I don't want to, but I can do the same for this site.

You seem to feel that you're entitled to a free product.

If you feel you need to leave the site, then that's a decision you have to make. That's how you exercise your power. You could, alternatively, sign up for the Pub Club, but I understand if you don't want to/can't do that.

I would love nothing more than to someday be in the position where we can turn down advertising dollars based on aesthetics, because that would be the day we are very, very, very wealthy.

While I'm probably late to this (what a surprise), I will say that those ads are quite annoying to me. However, they would not be nearly as annoying if I knew when they would come up or have an indication that an ad is below. Smaller, banner ads that expand when you click/hover on them I think would have sufficed, but instead we get a large banner that pops out of nowhere. I'm not saying to get rid of these ads as you do need the revenue, but more thought behind their implementation would have been nice.

Thank you, the smaller banner size is greatly appreciated. :)
