A little while back, I was reading a blog, don't remember what it was about, but in the comments, people were talking about various places they had lived, and one person who had recently moved to the Pacific Northwest noted that people hear often don't use much of anything to protect themselves from the rain. I didn't think too much about it at the time, but today, it started to rain for what seemed like the first time all summer (it wasn't actually the first time, it had just been awhile since we had a good rain). I suddenly realized as I was walking around in the rain that a large number of people weren't wearing any significant rain protection, many still didn't have an umbrella either. Most people were just wearing normal clothes, or a sweatshirt or something like that that isn't necessarily rain gear.

So what do you wear in the rain, and whats the rain gear culture like in your area (region, state, country (maybe you're from a micro-nation), whatever you want to talk about in terms of area)?

Normal clothes.

Dad: You taking an umbrella to school today?
Me: No, why?
Dad: It might rain today.
Me: Then, I might get wet.

Used to wear raincoat. All of mine are gone now.

At this point, it's any jacket type thing with a hood plus the umbrella.

Double protection is a must. As a girl who gets her hair all processed and whatnot, getting it wet would ruin it very quickly.

Heh, try the rains in the UK.

Anyway depending on how heavy and windy the rain is, I usually have a raincoat on me (I look at the forecast beforehand) and it it's heavy rain, I bring an compact umbrella aswell. Granted I don't use if it's very windy as those compact umbrella are useless against the wind.

Uh... I just wear my usual clothes. Although I usually wear a jacket, so that helps.

I have a goofy looking oilskin hat I wear if it's really pouring down. I hate having water go down the back of my neck.

Generally I'll wear a light raincoat from Spring - Autumn, and a ski jacket during Winter. The ski jacket is probably overkill for the UK but it's really warm and as waterproof as a traditional raincoat.

Meh, from what I can tell, though there are places in the UK that get a ton of precipitation, its fairly similar to what we get up here in Washington State (Seems to be about 56 inches on average)though Eastern Washington throws off the state average, as its a giant desert wasteland due to the Cascade Mountain Range that runs through the state.

I almost always bring a jacket out with me, and I keep gloves and a hat in it so thats my usual option. If its bad though, or if I'm activly expecting rain, I wear my trenchcoat and bring an umbrella, if I can.

I keep an umbrella in my bag. I'll have a hoodie with me if it's cooler, but it's just thin fabric and not rainproof at all. Umbrella it is, but it usually doesn't help much with the wind here.

I carry a sun parasol with me all the time so it also doubles as a normal umbrella

Used to wear raingear as a kid, ya know, the plastic shit. But that doesn't breath and I'm a very sweaty person, so I'd just end up just as wet as I would have gotten from the rain, and feeling way more filthy and stinky on top of that.

So now it's just normal clothes. In summer it's no big deal, you dry faster than you can say Fluggaenkoecchicebolsen.
In colder weather my standard coat is faux leather, and it doesn't let a fuckin thing through, so rain is only a problem below the belt then.
Quite annoying as I work in a giant freezer. Only had real downpour twice on my way to work so far, and those were 2 of the most miserable days of my life. There's no getting warm on a day like that, not till ya get home and can shower anyway.

Yeah, as far as weather goes Washington is basically the US equivalent of the UK.

Anyway, I usually just wear a hoodie. But I also usually just wore a hoodie in the below-freezing winter weather throughout high school, occasionally breaking out the heavier coat if it was particularly windy. I wonder if that would have changed had I been much less heavy...

My hoodie is pretty nicely thick, so it's done a good enough job protecting me from the elements in the years I've used it. The last umbrella I owned was probably one that had a Batman: The Animated Series design on it back when I was six or seven, and it's been a few years since I used an umbrella at all. But I don't spend a lot of time walking through the rain nowadays.

You know what's funny? It rains so much in my town that umbrellas has become a fashion accessory.

On cold rainy days I usually just wear a shirt and Under Armour winter undershirt. I'm in southern California where we don't get much rain unfortunately, so it will provide enough warmth usually. Plus I like being out in the rain, so I won't dress like I am trying to avoid it.

A jacket normally. I depends on whether or it feels like it will rain or not, which I can normally tell based on the clouds and whether or not the temperature starts dropping, then I'll just wear normal clothes. I can get caught out though.

However, you never know when it will rain or whether or not it will rain in the UK, so you always have to prepare regardless.

Southern Ontarian here. Depending on the severity I tend to have an umbrella or simply just get damp. I love warm summer rains and often go out and get drenched. The policy for most is either nothing or umbrellas, usually the compact ones. A lot of folks seem to feel even if it's only spitting slightly they have to have the umbrella up asap.
