Would it just be better to get Windows 7 when I can afford it then? Because if it means a lot of assing about then that might be easier in the long run.
If you just want to game, you wont get a huge performance boost using linux, and it does take a bit more know-how to set up. Just use win7 if gaming is all you want.

Do you want free, opensource OS's and software? Do you want to learn about software, or just get free alternatives to photoshop, imovies, MSoffice, cakewalk, fruityloops, ect.ect.ect....?
Then do try it.
Maybe I'll set up a Window/Ubuntu rig and just game with Windows and everything else will be done on Ubuntu. Thanks for all the help.

dear god man, they're up to ten now. You can upgrade versions in OS (best leave it overnight though)
Yes I know, but I like Heron. It took me a while to get to Heron from Gusty Gibbon anyway, and I for one don't like change. Especially if that change takes me away from anything comfortable.

Adding to my Linux list is Kubuntu, Linux Mint and Debian Etch. So I think I am all set for my elitist party, especially with Mint. :D

I found it amusing that you mentioned your porn collection. Reminded me of that old joke about Linux users getting laid as often as their OS crashes.

Hm..I tired Slax but it wasn't to my liking. On paper it sounds brilliant and I am sure it is (it's running on the same GNU build I suppose) but I don't fancy it quite as much. It's like a lite lite Ubuntu or a lite Kubuntu. I'm not sure what niche it's meant to sit on but I have to admit, a pen drive bootable OS is pretty nifty. I bet you get all the ladies.

I've been using Windows 7 for two months now, and it's pretty cool. It's fast, looks good, and it's easy to work with.

If you'd start a post like this on other fora, you'd immediately unleash a flame war "Mac sucks, Windows is shite!". None of that here. That's why I love the Escapist. It's all about respect!

I personally love Mac. They look nice, are easy to use, hassle free, no virus issues. Love it. I don't know of any good-looking pc's and have no love for Windows. Although I've been hearing good things about Windows 8.

It's all about personal choice. I've made mine, you make yours. And if you choose Windows, I'll still love you :)

Running two computers with win 7 and planning on getting a cheap laptop to run Ubuntu on.
And before I got win 7 for my desktop I ran vista on it, and surprisingly enough, not a single crash i two years. I know o_O!
The vista on my laptop (before installing win 7 that is) on the otherhand claimed that taskmanager wasn't a valid win32 program. Now there is what you'd expect from vista.

Windows XP for Desktop, where gaming happens.
Ubuntu for Laptop, where random stuff happens.

I'm more comfortable with Windows, because I've been using it since 3.1, but I like some of the stuff Ubuntu has.
